Private 8 Hour Tour of North Iceland’s Waterfalls & Myvatn Nature Baths with Transfer from Akureyri
Experience the highlights of north Iceland. Come along on a private day trip from the town of Akureyri to see cascading waterfalls, geothermal areas and otherworldly landscapes. Those looking to see the best of the North with their friends and family should not miss this opportunity.
You'll be picked up in the town of Akureyri in the morning and driven to a beautiful waterfall with a historical significance, Goðafoss waterfall, also known as the 'Waterfall of the Gods'.
Then you'll continue to the Lake Mývatn area, where you'll stop at the Dimmuborgir region for a short stroll in the fascinating landscape, characterised by strangely shaped lava rock foundations. Dimmuborgir is one of the filming locations of the HBO show Games of Thrones, and once you are there, you will understand why. It is a place like no other and gives the visitor the feeling of being in a fairytale.
After Dimmuborgir, you'll stop at Námaskarð, an active geothermal area with boiling mud springs. You will then drive further until you reach Dettifoss which is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. It is, without doubt, one of Iceland's most spectacular waterfalls and it is located in the beautiful Vatnajökull National Park.
On your way back, you'll stop at the Mývatn nature baths, where you can have a nice soak and relax in the lagoon, so make sure you bring your swimsuits on this tour. After the soak, you'll be driven back, with an optional stop at a restaurant located close to the nature baths, for light dinner.
You will have your private guide/driver who has decades of experience travelling in the region and can share his knowledge and stories. Since these are small, private tours, there is some flexibility in timing, and you can travel at a speed that fits your group.
