Based on 8 traveller reviews

Enjoy a spectacular horseback ride in the valley of Mosfellsdalur, and recharge afterwards at the Blue Lagoon Spa. This tour should not be missed by any who want to combine the two classic Icelandic experiences of meeting the Icelandic Horse and bathing in geothermally heated waters.

You will be picked up from a predetermined meeting point in Reykjavík in the morning, and be whisked just outside the city. Mosfellsdalur is only twenty minutes or so drive away, but even so, is immersed in nature; this valley is verdant, partly forested, and has a beautiful river running through it.

You will meet your horses at Laxnes Farm, which is named after Iceland’s only Nobel Prize Winner, Halldór Laxness, who lived in the area. Icelandic horses are a special breed; compared to others, they are smaller, sturdier, smarter and much more sociable. These traits will become apparent as soon as you see them, and even more so when you gear up, mount, and start to ride.

You will travel by idyllic farms, in the shadow of mighty mountains, past historic buildings, and across a shallow river. Your guide will tell you all about the surroundings and your steeds as you follow them. They will also allow you to practice the different gaits that Icelandic horses have; they are the only breed worldwide, for example, to perform the tölt.

After a scenic and adventurous ride, you’ll return to Laxness Farm, and be driven from there to the Blue Lagoon. This route will take you back through Reykjvík, then along the geological wonderland of the Reykjanes Peninsula.

Near the end of this region, you will see steam pouring into the sky, revealing the Blue Lagoon. This spa is world famous for its beautiful azure waters, its silica face masks, and its reputed healing properties.

Your ticket for the Blue Lagoon is not included in this tour, so be sure to book separately and well in advance, as spaces are limited. If you would rather explore Reykjanes’s lava fields by foot, you can do that instead. The pool, however, is incredibly restorative, and perfect for loosening up any tension built over your holiday.

After enjoying the Blue Lagoon, you’ll be transferred back to Reykjavík, with full knowledge that you have enjoyed two authentic Icelandic experience.

It was very unforgettable experience. The staff are very kind and nice. We can feel their passion and pride of sharing what their country have with the others. I enjoyed the horse riding with Icelandic horse, which are kind and cute animals in Iceland. If you really want to experience the Icelandic activity, I strongly recommend you to join this tour and you will find that Iceland is a place combined the nature and fun.

This is the first time doing horse riding in Iceland, and we will definitely do it again when we come back. The Iceland horses are so cute and human-friendly, the trip was so relaxed on the horse back and we enjoyed the scenes on the track. The host family was welcoming, and provided you with all necessary gears which we didn't have to worry about. The Blue Lagoon is a must-visit place in Iceland, and combined with the horse riding it would make you a very relaxing and enjoyable day. The only draw-back of the trip was on Gray Line Iceland, which their staff misrepresented to us that the tour included admission tickets, despite that we have confirmed with their staff several times through emails. Ended up we got no booking made for the Blue Lagoon, and we almost risked not having a entry slot. It has wasted us an hour to get the entry resolved (by making additional payments ourselves), which has ruined much of our mood, and until now we still do not hear any apology from Gray Line Iceland and our complaints are still in vain.

This was my second time riding at this horse farm, and I plan to do it every time I visit Iceland! The family is welcoming, the horses are sweet and friendly, and the view on the trails is amazing. Highly recommended - but be sure to dress appropriately!! The Blue Lagoon is also a must-do on a trip from Reykjavik. And a soak in the warm water after a morning out on the horses is perfect. This combo makes for an excellent day!

enjoyable in blue lagoon

Simply amazing! Horseback riding through lava fields then relaxing all evening in the Blue Lagoon is an experience we will never forget!

Loved that Icelandic horse!!!
