Daily itinerary

Day 1 - Waterfalls, Geysers & Black Sand Beach

Keep an eye out for puffins as you travel the South Coast, they nest on cliffs near Reynisfjara beach.

The day starts in Reykjavík, where you'll be picked up and driven to your first stop of the day, Gullfoss waterfall. This beautiful two-tiered cascade tumbles down 32 metres into an ancient canyon. From there, you'll make your way to the geothermal area of Geysir where you'll get to walk around the active landscape, seeing mud pools bubble and hot springs erupt.

Next up are the waterfalls and black sands of the South Coast. You'll stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall, a stunning cascade that falls over a concaved cliff face, making it possible to fully encircle the waterfall. Then it is only a short drive to another cascade, the beautiful Skógafoss, where, on a clear day, you can often see a double rainbow forming in the mist.

You'll stop at the black sand beach Reynisfjara where you can enjoy the views of the unruly Atlantic Ocean as it crashes upon shores and on the massive Reynisdrangar sea stacks which rise out of the sea like petrified trolls.

The last stop of the day is the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. However, the fun doesn't end there. After setting up camp and enjoying a nice dinner, you can choose to explore the region further with a short hike.

Day 2 - Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach

See glistening icebergs that have washed up on shore at the Diamond Beach.

After breakfast, it is time to continue your journey of the South Coast. You'll head to Skaftafell Nature Reserve, an area known for its beautiful, contrasting scenery of green flora, black sands and white glaciers.

Skaftafell is also known for its many hiking trails and tracks, and today, you will hike up to the beautiful Svartifoss, a stunning waterfall surrounded by black hexagonal basalt columns.

From there, you'll make your way to a lagoon which has often been dubbed 'The Crown Jewel of Iceland', Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Here is where icebergs that have broken off a nearby glacier, float on a serene lake before drifting off to sea.

Some of these icebergs wash up on a nearby black sand beach where they glisten in the sunlight like precious gemstones. The sight has thus earned the beach the nickname 'The Diamond Beach'.

After enjoying the sights at the glacier lagoon and the Diamond Beach, you'll drive to the small fishing village of Djúpivogur, located within the Eastfjords of Iceland. Dinner will be served, and lots of games and activities will be available.

Day 3 - Dettifoss & Myvatn Area

See bubbling mud pools and otherworldly landscapes at Námaskarð geothermal area near Lake Mývatn.

Today, you'll thread the Eastfjords and drive to Europe's most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss. This mighty cascade is located on the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river, which flows from Europe's largest glacier, Vatnajökull.

From there you'll visit Leirhnjúkur area, located near the great Krafla caldera. There you'll take an hours walk through this steaming lava field before exploring the Námaskarð geothermal area and Grjótagjá hot spring cave. Both located in the greater Mývatn area.

You'll set up camp around Lake Mývatn and spend the night playing games, and enjoying the fantastic views of the region.

Day 4 - Lava Fields & Beers

A rainbow forming over the beautiful Goðafoss waterfall in northern Iceland.

After breakfast, you'll continue exploring the Mývatn region. Most of the area was created in a volcanic eruption over 2,000 years ago. You'll start the day with a hike to the tuff ring volcano Mt. Hverafjall before visiting the lava cave and rock formations of the Dimmuborgir lava field.

Next up is the beautiful waterfall Goðafoss, also known as 'The Waterfall of the Gods'. This beauty is not only stunning but has an interesting history which your knowledgeable guide will tell you all about.

At this point, you must be thirsty after all the hiking, so a trip to the Kaldi brewery is a welcome change. You'll take a tour of Iceland's first microbrewery where you can taste some delicious beer.

You'll set up camp in the northern town of Akureyri which is also known as "the capital of the North".

Day 5 - Heading Back

Hraunfossar waterfalls in west Iceland trickle down a dark lava field.

Today, you'll make your way back to the city where you will be dropped off at your accommodations. However, you'll make one final stop before reaching the capital city.

In the Borgarnes region in western Iceland lie the Hraunfossar waterfall, a series of cascades that trickled out of a dark lava field.
