Description

Take flight as you journey into the Arctic Circle. In this unique day tour, you will depart from Akureyri in Iceland’s North and head towards the island of Grímsey, Iceland’s gateway to the Arctic. This tour is perfect for those who want to experience a special view of Iceland while also setting foot in the Arctic Circle, something very few can say they have done.

Your tour will begin at Akureyri airport. A small aircraft, perfect for sightseeing will await you along with an experienced pilot. Once you are airborne, you will be able to take in the breathtaking beauty below.

You will fly over the scenic Troll Peninsula. This area has some of Iceland’s highest mountains where dramatic cliff faces fall over fjords and the sea. Your flight path also offers the opportunity to see whales on their migration. Lucky passengers have seen pods of humpback whales travelling north, a truly spectacular sight.

In just 30 minutes you will arrive on the island of Grímsey, the most northern point of Iceland. Grímsey is the only part of Iceland that truly sits in the Arctic Circle. You will receive proof that you have set foot in the Arctic soon after arrival. To celebrate you can experience some traditional Icelandic cuisine before exploring parts of this mostly untouched island.

Many visitors travel to Grímsey to witness the Atlantic Puffin in its natural habitat. These stout birds, with colourful beaks, nest here in abundance during the summer months. The island has a lack of predators which creates the perfect sanctuary for these feathered icons.

Once you have snapped those incredible puffin shots, you will be able to take in the incredible vistas of Grímsey. After about 2 hours you will then return to your plane and take to the sky once more; witnessing the vibrant sights below before touching town again in Akureyri.

Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to see Iceland from a different perspective and venture to the Arctic Circle. Pick a date to check availability.
