The glacier is the second-largest in Iceland, and you'll experience it up close with an exciting monster-truck ride. You'll ride over the glacier ice, passing through magnificent landscapes and enjoying breathtaking scenery.

Once you're on top of the glacier, a certified local guide will take you into the world's largest artificial ice tunnel, an unforgettable experience.

You'll visit the fantastic Godafoss waterfall, the "waterfall of the gods." Then, your guide will take you to Lake Myvatn, where you'll see the incredible lake and the Dimmuborgir, or "dark fortress," a dramatic expanse of lava.

The next stop is the Namaskard Pass geothermal area. Here, you'll witness the constantly changing patterns of hot springs, boiling mud pools, and fumaroles.

Afterward, your guide will take you to the Krafla volcano to see its impressive crater before taking a relaxing stop at the Myvatn Nature Baths to unwind in the geothermal waters.

Day 1
A monster truck drives on the Langjokull Glacier in Iceland.

Day 1 - Langjokull Glacier and Waterfalls

Journey deep into a glacier and enjoy a thrilling monster truck ride on the first day of this exciting North and West Iceland tour.

The day starts at your accommodation in Reykjavik, where your private guide for the tour will collect you. Be ready to leave by 08:30. You’ll travel out of Reykjavik toward Borgarnes village before journeying into the Icelandic Highlands to visit the Langjokull glacier.

Langjokull is the second-largest glacier in Iceland at approximately 361 square miles (935 square kilometers). Its name translates to “long glacier.”

You’ll board a monster truck to travel up to the top of the glacier, passing magnificent landscapes and enjoying the fresh, cold air.

You’ll also head deep inside the glacier with a special visit to the world’s longest artificial ice tunnel. Ice and snow will surround you, and temperatures in the tunnel can be as low as 32 F (0 C), so you must dress appropriately.

A glacier guide will take you into the tunnel and tell you about the formation of glaciers and ice tunnels. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most, so bring your camera.

After this incredible experience, the tour continues with a stop at the beautiful Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. These neighboring waterfalls provide spectacular views, and your guide can tell you more about the various waterfalls around Iceland.

Your journey continues northward as you travel to Akureyri, passing the stunning Grabrok mountain, where you can take some pictures. You’ll have time to explore Akureyri in the evening and get a delicious dinner before bed.

Akureyri is the “capital of North Iceland,” so there are plenty of good restaurants and fun things to do if you want to do more sightseeing.

You’ll spend the night in a comfortable guesthouse or hotel in Akureyri with a private bathroom.

Day 2
A scenic view of Lake Myvatn on the Diamond Circle tourist route in North Iceland.

Day 2 - Lake Myvatn and Hot Spring Bathing

Discover the best natural attractions near Akureyri on the second day of this three-day private tour.
You'll start your day with a delicious breakfast at your hotel in Akureyri. When you're ready, your guide will drive you out of the city to your first stop of the day, the stunning Godafoss waterfall.

The word "Godafoss" translates to "Waterfall of the Gods." You'll understand why it has this name when you reach these dramatic falls.

Godafoss is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. Your guide will tell you about it and give you time to explore and take photos.

From here, you'll continue to Lake Myvatn, one of the highlights of the Diamond Circle sightseeing route. The lake is the fourth largest in the country, home to 13 species of ducks. It's a popular destination for keen birdwatchers.

During your visit to the Myvatn area, you can also see the otherworldly Dimmuborgir lava field. This area is steeped in folklore, and your guide will tell you some stories as you explore the fascinating lava structures.

Your guide will then take you to the Namaskard geothermal area, where you'll learn about geothermal power in Iceland. You'll see mud pools, hot springs, and steaming vents as you walk around.

From here, the tour continues to the Krafla volcanic caldera, another of Iceland's stunning natural wonders. Krafla is one of Iceland's most active volcanic areas, making this a fascinating place to visit.

After a busy day of sightseeing, you might want to relax for a while, so a trip to the Myvatn Nature Baths is the ideal next stop. You'll have time to soak and unwind in the soothing geothermal waters before you return to Akureyri for a short city tour.

You can have dinner in the city at your leisure before returning to the hotel for a good night's sleep.

Day 3 - The Snaefellsnes Peninsula

Explore the most famous attractions of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula on the final day of this three-day private tour.

Once again, you'll start the day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel or guesthouse in Akureyri.

You'll then travel out of Akureyri and North Iceland toward the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in the west of the country. It's a long way, but the journey is picturesque, and you can stop off for a snack or to stretch your legs.

Your first stops of the day will be the villages of Hellnar and Arnarstapi. These charming villages have stunning views, with dramatic coastal cliffs and sweeping panoramas of the Atlantic Ocean.

Next, the tour continues to the Djupalonssandur beach, a black-sand beach with unique rock formations. Your guide will tell you about Iceland's black sands as you explore. You'll also get a fantastic view of the Snaefellsjokull mountain and volcano that gives its name to this peninsula.

The guide will take you to the spectacular Londrangar cliffs to enjoy the ocean view and basalt geology. If you visit in the summer, you might see surfers catching the waves here.

The penultimate stop on the tour is the famous Kirkjufell mountain, one of the most photographed sights in the country. The mountain has a distinctive cone shape that makes it easily recognizable. You'll also visit the nearby waterfall to get fantastic photos of this iconic attraction.

Finally, your group will visit the Vatnshellir lava cave and go deep into the heart of Iceland's volcanic landscape. This 8,000-year-old lava tube is more than 600 feet (200 meters) long, and you can learn about the eruption that caused it as you walk through the tunnel.

After this incredible day, you'll return to Reykjavik around 20:00. Your guide will drop you off at your accommodation or another convenient part of the city.
