Description

Delve further into the history and culture of east Iceland with this Super Jeep tour, exploring the many rustic highlights of Breiðdalsvík valley. This tour is the perfect option for those travellers to Iceland seeking a deeper and more educative experience during their stay.

Breiðdalsvík is a peaceful and beautiful corner of east Iceland; it is a region of historic grass-roofed farmsteads, unbridged rivers and plummeting waterfalls. In true Viking spirit, you will traverse through this fragile landscape in a Super Jeep, a modified vehicle capable of taking on the loose gravel roads and crossing the trickling rivers.

You will begin your tour by driving into Breiðdalsvík valley, crossing an old bridge from where you look down into the crystal clear waters of the river canyon below. Following that, it’s time to drive off road - your friendly and experienced guide will navigate the treacherous backpasses, leading your group to the stunning waterfall, Beljandi.

Next up is a short drive to your next destination, this time the waterfall Flögufoss. To get the best perspective of the cascading water (and the best position for snapping photographs) you will hike a short distance to the waterfall.

It is then time to explore the history and culture of the region. You will be driven to a historic farmstead called Jórvík where you will see first-hand how many Icelanders lived during the 19th and 20th century. In summer, the farmstead is made all the more beautiful by a wealth of blossoming flowers.

To bring your tour to a close, you will make a final stop at one of the region’s cultural landmarks, the local church Heydalir. The original building was constructed in 1856, but mysteriously burnt down in the late 20th century. Your guide will take the opportunity here to teach you further about the history of the region.

Enjoy the natural and cultural depth of East Iceland fully with this eclectic Super Jeep tour, visiting waterfalls, historical sites and urban landmarks. Check availability by choosing a date.
