Come along on this Super Jeep excursion to some of Iceland’s most ethereal attractions, where you’ll drive up the slopes of Hekla Volcano and tread along Highland mountain trails. If you want to experience more of Iceland than its most tourist-oriented locations, this is the adventure to complete your travels.
You’ll meet up with your experienced local guide by Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you’ll board a modified Super Jeep and begin your journey. Then, you’ll start your drive to Mt. Hekla, one of Iceland’s most active and mythical volcanoes. After an eruption over a thousand years ago, this stunning caldera began to develop a reputation as the very entrance to hell.
Today, Hekla has preserved its diabolical status, and those inclined to superstition claim it to be a spot where witches like to meet with the devil. You will search for signs of these wicked gatherings, and worst case scenario, you will obtain a panoramic view of the South Coast and Highlands of Iceland.
From Hekla, you will head along the Highland route of Syðra Fjallabak towards Iceland’s most famed hiking trail Laugavegur. Your modified Super Jeep will whisk you along the F-roads, taking you directly to parts of the trail, awing at the rhyolite mountains and stopping at the huts of Álftavatn and Emstur.
As your voyage continues, you will visit the spectacular canyon of Markarfljótsgljúfur, believed to have been created in a single disaster flood due to a volcanic eruption from Katla with its origins underneath Mýrdalsjökull Glacier.
From there, you will start making your way back down to the lowlands, gaining views of the mountain Einhyrningur along your route, as well as the cascading glacier river Markarfljót, with Þórsmörk and Eyjafjallajökull looming to the east. You will then head to Fljótshlíð, a beautiful farmland and the location of the Saga of Njáll, before heading back to the base camp by Seljalandsfoss.
You don’t want to miss out on this incredible Highland voyage, where you’ll witness rhyolite mountains, geothermal areas, black sand deserts and waterfalls. Book now and become one with the nature of Iceland. Check availability by choosing a date.
