Hekla Volcano & Syðra Fjallabak Superjeep tour

Our journey begins at Mt. Hekla Volcano which is one of Iceland's most active volcano. It started to developed a reputation as a gateway to Hell after its 1104 eruption. That reputation continued with additional eruptions and after the 1341 eruption, there was a report that people saw birds flying amidst the fire, some believed to be swarming the souls.

Even today people claim that Hekla has preserved its diabolic status, as some superstitious folk have claimed that it's a spot where witches meet with the devil. So, what we will do is drive up Hekla volcano and search for signs of these gatherings and worst case, we will get a gorgeous panoramic view over the south coast and the highlands of Iceland.

From there we will start to drive back down and make our way towards Laugavegur, Iceland's most popular hiking trail. Our F road will take us directly on the hiking trail in parts and we will stop at a few of the mountain hut's, like Álftavatn and Emstur.

On this voyage, we will make a stop at the spectacular canyon Markarfljótsgljúfur and it is believed to be created in a single disaster flood bursting from the famous volcano Katla in Mýrdalsjökull glacier in an eruption under the glacier.

From there we will start to head back down towards the lowlands and on the drive, we will see the unique mountain Einhyrningur and drive beside the glacier river Markarfljót with Þórsmörk and Eyjafjallajökull glacier on the east side of us. We will then head our way to Fljótshlíð which is a beautiful farmland where the Njáls Saga took place.

This is truly a voyage that you don't want to miss, with its rhyolite mountains, geothermal areas, black sand desert, canyon's, glaciers, volcanos, waterfalls and so much more.
