Snæfellsnes Peninsula Super Jeep Tour | Stykkishólmur, Mt Kirkjufell, Snæfellsjökull Glacier

Explore the incredible Snæfellsnes Peninsula on this fantastic Super Jeep tour. With its diverse and breathtaking landscapes, charming settlements, and a vast array of fascinating natural features, this tour promises to delight those lucky enough to join it.

You will be picked up from your Reykjavík accommodation from 08:00 am, in one of our excellent Super Jeeps. The limited seats mean that this tour will be as personal and comfortable as possible.

Your first stop on the peninsula will be the historic town of Stykkishólmur. The settlement has a picturesque harbour, surrounded by charming pastel houses, and a rugged coast that is home to thousands of seabirds.

Next, you’ll visit the fishing harbour of Grundarfjörður, located at the base of Iceland’s most photographed mountain, Kirkjufell. This lonely peak is breathtaking, surrounded by verdant fields, beautiful waterfalls, a serene lake and a stunning coastline.

You will then head to Skarðsvík, a tranquil beach of golden sands, with a backdrop of dramatic cliffs. From the top of these, you will get magnificent views of the ocean.

Then, you go to the crown jewel of the peninsula: Snæfellsjökull National Park. One of Iceland’s three national parks, established in 2001, its highlight is the glacier and volcano Snæfellsjökull. This magnificent feature is 1446 metres (4744 ft) tall, topped with snow all year round, and was the setting for the Jules Verne novel, Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

After marvelling over this summit, you will start to head back along the Snæfellsnes peninsula, but the excitement is far from over. You will next see the Lóndrangar sea stacks, a pair of basalt rock formations that rise 75 metres (246 ft) from the surface of the ocean.

This area is steeped in folklore; these sea-stacks are said to be trolls, petrified by the light of the rising sun, and the hill that overlooks them is said to be the home of many elves. In the past, farmers never collected hay here so that they would not disturb them. Even if you do not see the ‘hidden people’, however, you are likely to see many birds, including puffins, throughout summer.

You will next find the charming villages of Hellnar and Arnarstapi. They are connected by a scenic coastal road, dotted with bizarre rock formations rising from the water. Every year for the summer solstice, mystics and shamans meet at Arnarstapi for a mysterious ceremony.

Your final stop on this magnificent peninsula is the tiny, windswept settlement of Búðir. Surrounded by the Búðahraun lava field and enjoying unsurpassed views out over the Atlantic, it is a place of stunning tranquillity. It is best known for its romantic hotel, as well as its tiny pitch-black church which dates back to 1703.

You will return to Reykjavík still reeling from the incredible sights you have enjoyed throughout the day. Don’t miss the wonders of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Check availability by choosing a date.
