South Coast Elements | Glacier Hike, Lava Caving, DC-3 Plane Wreck & Hot Springs
Explore the wonders of Iceland’s incredible south coast on this comprehensive day tour; see famous and unique locations, hike a glacier, bathe in a hot spring, and explore a lava cave.
You will be picked up from your Reykjavík accommodation in the morning and begin your journey southeast. This stretch of coastline is famed for its wealth of landmarks and diverse scenery, all visible from the main road. Before you even reach any attraction, for example, you will be able to see Eyjafjallajökull, the sub-glacial volcano that erupted in 2010, and perhaps even the Westman Islands in the seas to the south.
The first stops, however, will be at two famous waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss is unique in the sense that it is possible to fully encircle the plunging water for some incredible views. Skógafoss, meanwhile, is much more classic, with a powerful, dramatic cascade.
You will reach the glacier tongue Sólheimajökull next, where you will partake in your glacier hike. The landscapes atop an ice-cap are ethereal and the hiking itself is an adventure of a lifetime. Your guide will fascinate you with stories about the history and natural laws behind this incredible natural phenomenon and all the necessary equipment will be provided, just do not forget to bring some sturdy boots.
After this excursion, you will head into the black sand desert of Sólheimsandur, where the wreckage of a crashed aircraft lays alone in the desolate landscape. This is an excellent spot for photography, and you will learn all about what happened to this plane from your guide. For those who love even more adventure we have added the option of Fat-Bike ride down to the airplane wreck.
After this, you will unwind a little by basking in a geothermal pool. Seljavallalaug is one of Iceland’s oldest swimming pools and located in a beautiful natural setting.
Once you have recharged, you will go on one caving adventure before heading home. There is a fascinating, beautiful world beneath the surface of Iceland’s lava fields, formed by volcanic forces, and few are lucky enough to get the chance to explore it. Again, all the equipment needed for caving will be provided.
Enjoy glacier hiking, lava caving, hot-spring bathing and classic sightseeing all within a day on this immersive tour. Check availability by choosing a date.

Skógafoss is one of the country’s biggest and most beautiful waterfalls with an astounding width of 25 meters and a drop of 60 meters. Due to the amount of spray the cascade produces, a rainbow is present any time the sun emerges from behind the clouds.
Located on the Skógá river, this mighty cascade is clearly visible from Route 1 and is an excellent place to stop and stretch the legs while travelling Iceland’s South Coast. The river below Skógafoss holds a large char and salmon population and is thus a favourite spot for fishermen in the summer.
The land underneath the waterfall is very flat, allowing visitors to walk right up to the wall of water; keep in mind, however, that this will get you drenched. Skógafoss can also be viewed from the top as a steep staircase leads to an observational platform above the cascade.
Skógafoss is located near the small village of Skógar, south of the Eyjafjallajökull glacier volcano. There you’ll find the Skógasafn folk museum, an open-air museum with both old wooden houses and turf houses, as well as a regional museum with various artefacts from this area.
A part of the Skógasafn Regional Museum is the Museum of Transportation, which showcases the history and evolution of transportation, communication and technologies in Iceland. There, you can see how this nation evolved from the age of the working horse to the digital communications of the 21. Century.
The Skógasafn museum also includes a café and a museum shop, and in the village of Skógar, you will find both a hotel and a restaurant.
At the eastern side of Skógafoss, you will find one of Iceland’s most famed hiking routes; the Fimmvörðuháls pass. The 22 km trail leads you along Skógá river, between two glaciers, Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull, before ending in the beautiful Þórsmörk valley.
A gold ring is on display at the Skógasafn museum. According to legend, the ring is from a chest that was owned by Þrasi Þórólfsson, one of the first Viking settlers in the area. Folklore states that before his death in 900 AD, Þrasi buried a chest filled with gold in a cave behind Skógafoss waterfall.
Many attempts were made to retrieve the chest after Þrasi’s death, and years later, locals managed to grasp a ring on the side of the chest. As they pulled, the ring broke off, and the treasure was lost forever. The ring was then given to the local church before it made its way to the museum.
Seljalandsfoss in the river Seljalandsa in South Iceland is one of the most sought waterfalls in the country.
Seljalandsfoss has a narrow cascade but is one of Iceland's highest waterfalls, at 63 meters. The waterfall is highly picturesque and has the rare distinction that one can actually walk behind it.
Solheimajokull is a beautiful outlet glacier of the Myrdalsjokull icecap.
Solheimajokull is a rugged glacial tounge riddled with crevasses and spectacular ever-changing ice formations, jagged ridges and sinkholes and is popular for hiking and ice climbing.
The glacier river Jokulsa a Solheimasandur has its source at the glacier, flowing over the sand plain of Solheimasandur towards the sea.
Solheimasandur is a vast area of sand and gravel along the south coast of Iceland, between the cliffs of the interior and the modern shoreline. It was built up by immense glacier bursts sweeping from the mountains to the shore.
The glacier bursts would come via the glacier river Jokulsa a Solheimasandi which runs from the Solheimajokull outlet glacier and towards the sea.
The beach of Solheimasandur is astonishing. It is quite common as far as sands and pebbles go but the colour stands out, a dark greenish, sometimes reddish grey, turning pure black when it turns wet. Mixed with the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean it becomes an amazing sight.
Another impressive sight is the plain wreck of a DC-3 belonging to the US Navy that ran out of fuel and crashed on the sand in 1973, and is still located at the very same spot. It is also seen in Icelandic band Sigur Ros's film Heima.
Gljúfrabúi ("Canyon Dweller“) is a beautiful waterfall located at Hamragarðar in South Iceland, close to its better known counterpart, Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
The 40 metre high Gljúfrabúi can be considered somewhat of a hidden gem. It is indeed partially hidden behind a huge cliff that lends much atmosphere to the scenery.
To enjoy a view of the fall you need to wade the Gljúfurá river into a narrow opening in the cliff or follow a steep path up the cliff. Both endeavours are demanding so utmost caution is advised.
As mentioned, this waterfall is less known than its neighbour but as a result may provide for all the greater serenity, in addition to excellent scenery.
The South Coast of Iceland is the country's most visited sightseeing route, along with the Golden Circle.
The famed South Coast shoreline stretches from the greater Reykjavík area and is dotted with natural wonders such as cascading waterfalls, volcanoes both active and dormant, black sand beaches and glacier lagoons.
Geography, Nature & Wildlife
Iceland is divided into eight geographical regions. Out of these, the Southern Region is the largest, as it spans over 24.000 square kilometres with its administrative centre in the municipality of Selfoss.
What is known as the South Coast embodies the shoreline of this particular region. The area consists of a lowland that is mostly composed of marshlands, bays and cultivated pastures that are met by a series of black beaches where the estuaries to the east and west of the district close off the coastal body.
Underneath the soil rests a vast lava field, known as Þjórsárhraun. Its edges reach several hundred metres offshore where the ocean waves crash upon them, thereby protecting the lowland from the invasion of the sea. This results in the South Coast being unusually lacking in the deep fjords that so distinctly characterise the rest of Iceland's shore line.
The region boasts vibrant bird life during all seasons. It is not only rich with both marshland birds and seabirds but also migrating birds such as the North Atlantic puffin. Some species stay throughout the harsh Icelandic winter, including the northern diver, the loom and various species of gulls and ducks.
Highlights of the South Coast
The South Coast offers an unprecedented array of natural wonders that draw thousands of visitors each day. When driving the route from Reykjavík City, the highlights in their correct order are:
- Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
- Vestmannaeyjar; The Westman Islands
- Eyjafjallajökull Glacier Volcano
- Skógafoss Waterfall
- Sólheimajökull Glacier
- Dyrhólaey Peninsula
- Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
- Reynisdrangar Sea Stacks
- Coastal Village Vík í Mýrdal
- Skeiðarársandur Glacial Sand Plain
- Vatnajökull National Park
- Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
These attractions count for but a fraction of what the South Coast has to offer. The vast sand plains of Sólheimasandur are home to a crashed DC-3 Plane Wreck, and close to Seljavellir by the Skógar Village there's Seljavallalaug, one of the oldest swimming pools in Iceland.

I feel awful that i can't remember my tour guide's name; I think it was Paula (blonde, originally from poland). She was wonderful - friendly, fun, knowledgeable and overall great company! It was a pleasure to have spent the day with her on this action packed tour. Itinerary was great - a full day of sights and challenges. The only disappointing part was that the tour was advertised to include a visit to a geothermic pool. Unfortunately there was no mention that the geothermic pool stop isn't offered in September. And there wasn't any substitute. Kinda bummed about but overall still a great time. Sites are unbelievable. Bike ride was fun (even in the rain) and the glacier hike was a great experience. Even without the geothermal pool I still highly recommend - well worth it! And you'll sleep like a rock when you get back to your hotel.
Going on this tour was absolutely amazing! We were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary in Iceland. Our tour guide, "Magic" Mike was knowledgeable, friendly, outgoing, and VERY energetic! He knows his stuff! He was able to accommodate slower people (like me ...2 hip replacements) as well as keep up with/exceed those with excellent athletic abilities (my husband!) We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and the sights we got to see. However we were disappointed by the fact that the title of the whole tour mentions a visit to a geothermic pool, and yet come to find out that even though we paid the full price, the pool visit does not occur between Oct-April and so we did not get to go there. And BECAUSE of my surgeries this was why we chose to go on this tour, so we could soak in the pool. Nothing else was offered as a replacement for that part of the excursion. So we were VERY DISAPPOINTED and felt it was false advertising. We should have paid a lower price for the "off season" and I'm going to call and ask for a refund of some sort. But everything else was amazing! Thank you Mike!
Definitely the best tour we did while in Iceland. The tour was catered to our group and all of the activities were astounding. I loved that our tour guide let us go over the edge of the crevice while in the glacier and even stopped at a remote waterfall on the way home. He also stopped for us to see the northern lights when just two days before we had gone on the northern lights tour and were disappointed. This tour was very active though worth it. I would suggest this tour for anyone up to a challenge and wanting to see the highlights of the south coast! Thanks "Gummy" for everything!
Such an amazing tour. We were picked up from our hostel and taken to hike a glacier, ride a fat bike to the DC-3 site, viewed the waterfalls and climb down a lava cave. The tour guide "Gummy" was funny and played an Icelandic playlist the whole trip. The pool was closed due to pipe damage but they made up by taking us to the Black Sand beach. They even went the extra mile to see if the Northern lights were visible. Sadly it was too early. Great guide and tour bus driver and it was a fantastic day. A must do.
Best tour ever with the best guide in Iceland! Our guide David made this experience unique and amazing. He told us awesome stories about Iceland and Icelandic culture. I had a great experience in Iceland and this tour was the best part of my trip. I will definitely come back to Iceland and book more tours with Troll Expedition!
Best tour ever! Loved the glacier hike, loved the fat bikes. You'll be exhausted at the end of the day, but such a great time!
Unforgettable! My wife and I went on 'Southern Elements' tour and it was hands down the best experience of our trip. For the amount we saw and did the value was tremendous. Our guide, David, was warm, friendly, and knowledgable - a great guide and a wonderful person to send the day with. We only wish we had more time in Iceland (for another Troll Expedition)!
That was my greatest experience in Iceland. We went to the extremely beautiful glacier, the dc plane, cave and some waterfall. Even tough the guide did not take us to the hot spring due to the bad weather, he took us to a hidden waterfall that we can go to the bottom of the fall, so we could experience the water fall on our face directly . The guide, chris, is very kind and professional, who explained everything very detailed and told us lots of information about Iceland . I highly recommend this tour to all the traveler who want to have amazing experience in Iceland.
We traveled with troll expeditions on the best day of our entire trip! It was exhausting (lava caves, glacier hike, bike to plane crash, and more) but such an amazing adventure! The tour guide was fantastic - knowledgeable, friendly and fun

I only had 1 week to plan my second trip to Iceland. Even though a lot of tours were already booked, I somehow stumbled upon the South Coast Elements tour. Odder, was a fantastic guide. He had a great sense of humor and a great playlist of Icelandic music for our group to listen on our journey. He even gave us some interesting facts about Iceland. Even though this was my second visit to this country, there was never a dull moment. We crawled through a cave, used fat bikes to see a plane wreck made famous by Justin Beiber, hiked a glacier, and chased 3 beautiful waterfalls (2 which I have seen prior and was still as awesome). The tour was physically challenging and exhausting for myself but I am so glad that I went on this adventure. Bring some food and water! You need to eat after every activity! Otherwise, it's a fantastic tour and yes, it is "demanding."
Fantastic tour today. The South Elements tour is definitely a long day but it is an experience that I will never forget. Our tour guide Oddur was funny, kind and patient. I highly recommend this tour if you want to see alot of stuff in one day. The tour bus picked us up at 8am, I got home at 10:30pm. Although the tour does make a few stops at gas stations for food and bathroom breaks. Be prepared with your own snacks and water bottle. I would also suggest bringing a change of clothes because you will get sweaty (the good kind of sweat!). You will also need a swim suit and a towel. Dress in layers because it is colder on the glacier hike but when you ride the "fat bikes" to the Sólheimasandur Plane Crash you will get hot! We also visited 3 water falls, a geothermal pool and a cave. I am exhausted but very satisfied!
Absolutely amazing experience ! As an Icelander living abroad I came here with my American boyfriend and his mother and I could not be more excited about this tour and the phenomenal job trolli tours did of representing Iceland. David did an absolute amazing job at showing us some of icelands most beautiful places in an adventurous and interesting way. Highly recommend to anyone looking for once in a lifetime experience! Takk fyrir alveg magnaðan dag, það er æðislegt að vera túristi á Íslandi!
HIGHLY recommend this tour, ended up being one of the most epic and unforgettable days of my trip. Oddur was the guide for my tour a few weeks ago. He was great, knowledgable and increasingly playful. And he went through the extra effort to get our emails and compile a group picture album which made things so much easier. We played an array of icelandic music as our roadtrip soundtrack which set the mood perfectly and the activities we did were SO beautiful and very hands on which made it more fun. The entire day requires a lot of energy but its so worth it and you're doing so many things you hardly notice time. Honestly one of the best, most fun packed, inspiring, playful days of my time in Iceland. Must do!
I would highly recommended this tour to anyone who is looking for an adventurous, fun and well-organised tour. I went with my mum and she kept saying this is one of the most interesting tours she has been to, and I am not surprised. It’s a long day, but full of exciting activities and the tour company is well equipped to make the journey fun and safe for everyone, which is what makes this tour outstanding as well. Our guide, Oddur, is really knowledgeable, fun and helpful in many ways, and his taste on music is amazing!
Though there is a lot packed into this day of adventures, the time flew by. I loved all of the different activities and experienced several once-in-a-lifetime moments. This tour is for those that want to get physical, be on the move and see Iceland up close and personal. Our tour guide, David, was knowledgeable, fun and gave everyone the confidence to join in and participate. I would highly recommend this tour!
This is the best tour and one of the most exciting days of my life. I went with my teenage son and he also had a great time. Our tour guide, Sigga, was definetly the reason that makes this tour so great. Her incredible personality, pasion for adventure, information and stories about Icelandic culture made this tour just perfect. I will highly recommend this tour. If the only reason you have to go to Iceland is this tour, it worth it!
This tour made my experience in Iceland even better! All the activities, like the biking to the airplane wreck, the glacier hike and the pool was truly fantastic! The waterfalls were beautiful and our guide even took us to a secret spot which was stunning! No doubt about it but this is one of the best trips ever!
DR JAIDEEP CHANDRA
We had a long list of things we wanted to do on the South Coast and only one day to do it. This was the only tour that checked all the boxes for us, and it was spectacular! It was very rainy the entire day, but David did a good job of mentally preparing us to plan on rolling with the punches. It was a great adventure, and led to so many incredible stories we will be telling for years. I will say that if you're not an active person, it might be tiring, but still doable! And absolutely worth it!
It was probably one of the best tours I have ever went on in my life. Our guide David was very professional and friendly and knew answers to all the questions about Iceland :) It was adventure packed and long but not regretting any single moment. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to have a taste of Iceland.
This tour was brilliant! Our guide David was outstanding and went above and beyond to make this day special. It was a full on 15 hours of fun - I was exhausted at the end of the day but this was one of the best days I've had in a long time. Loved every second of it, from hiking the glacier to getting soaked at some waterfalls to an awesome finish to the day in the lava cave. Highly recommended!!
It was a long tour but we had a lot of fun. The best guide ever!
This day is like a box within a box within a box where the fun never stops. We started today on a glacier with Eyrun Lidia our guide. The hike was about 2 hours on the Ice, where we saw blue ice and some ice formation called ash cones and moulans all very interesting and fun to hear about. After the hike we proceeded to a place that I know nothing about! FATBIKE ride on the black sand beach where we could go down to an old abondoned airplane wreck, this was the most fun I´ve had since I turned adult. The day went on to visit waterfalls and going into an Cave before I passed out from exhaustion back in my hotel. The next day I woke up with a smile and could almost not believe this increndible day actually happened. Remember the Troll company does it a bit different but give them the chance and you will have a full heart of memories afterwards.
Such a great to tour to see lots of things in one day. The glacier hike was a highlight! With scenes otherworldly. Our tour guide Ros was super lovely and very knowledgeable. Made the tour lots of fun for us. Would reccomend
Great tour with some great people. It's a long day and we didn't get much rest but this was so much fun. It started with a secret lava cave, then the glacier hike. We had also so much fun riding bikes to the plain wreck, an unexpected part of our tour. It ended at the perfect spot Seljavallalaug pool. A relaxing rest after an amazing day.
Fantastic tour with David K, he is really nice guy. The lava cave was amazing. Thank you David
This was AMAZING. Best tour in Iceland hands down. We saw so many amazing places and the tour guides were wonderful. Well worth the price if you're looking to experience the best sites in southern Iceland.
The third tour we went with Troll Expedtions - the prior were Snæfellsnes and Golden Circle. This one was fantastic and had everything you need for a full day tour. The glacier hike was amazing, the plain wreck is great but the highlight was without doubt the Lava Cave.
Ingo and the crew made an incredible tour! Despite the rain and the unpredictable weather, the guides did an incredible job showing us all the hidden spots in the south coast of Iceland. The glacier hike was obviously the highlight of the trip and they guides split the group between two groups - those who wanted a more relaxing, scenic view and those who wanted the extra adrenaline kick. It was an unforgettable experience, with incredible views and all in a small and cozy group. I would highly recommend this tour and my thanks to all the guides for a super fun tour! :D
If you only join one tour in Iceland, I would highly recommend this tour of Troll Expeditions to you. If you enjoy adventure, this tour is a must-do in Iceland. This is an active and physically-demanding tour, but no worry, you have enough time to take rest while the guide is driving. Till today, I have joined three tours of different company in Iceland, this tour was no doubt on the top one, really fantastic. Thank you for our guide, Rose. She made a wonderful and crazy adventure with us, she made our trip perfect. I really love the crazy things we did on the day, I miss the gay who jumped into river with me (OMG! It's glacier water!!!)
We were in Iceland for 6 days and booked a tour for every day we were there. This tour specifically was hands down the best thing we did! Our guides, Rose and Oddur, were fantastic and highly engaging. It was clear from the start that they enjoyed what they did and loved engaging with us, the tourists. We won't spoil any of the details of the tour, but trust us and the rest of the reviews below that this is a must-do in Iceland. And if you do book it, I recommend trying to book with Rose and Oddur! Side-Note: this is a very active and physically-demanding tour. It is worth doing for the views and experience!
I'm in Iceland for 4 days and this was far and away the best thing I did. Our guides, Rose and Oddur, were the best and made the whole day so fun and interesting. They were super open to questions, and the small group made it easy to chat with everyone. The glacier hike was nothing short of spectacular, I couldn't even imagine how great it would be until I was up there. I will recommend this tour to anyone I know going to Iceland.

After doing a golden circle tour with Troll Expeditions which was incredible, we decided to book other tours with them. Our guide said this tour was a must see and we completely agree with that! These attractions are incredible, this is really like being on another planet!! The plane wreck on the black sand is so surreal, an amazing experience walking to it! The highlight for us was the glacier hike, I can't describe how great it was, the weather was amazing and the view from the glacier is truly magical. Our guide was amazing, she kept us entertained the whole time, introduced us to Icelandic music and even taught us some Icelandic! Geggjat! Eyjabjallayogurt! Thank you again so much for making our Iceland trip unforgettable !!
AMAZING! The tour was fantastic and the tour company was really good. The pick-up was on time and our guide was so friendly and funny! If you are exploring Iceland you should definitely take this trip! The plain wreck, the glacier, the waterfalls and the pool, I have no words! The nature is beautiful and I recommend it to everyone to go on a tour with them! Thank you for one of the best days EVER! You are the best!!!
What a day!! I was looking for an "all in one" day tour in Iceland and thats exactly what i got. I had the most amazing experience with the coolest guide ever, Sigga. We jumped over rivers, climbed up a plane wreck, hiked to the top of "The home of the sun" glacier.. and if that wasnt enough, we also bathed in the most beautiful pool in the world and checked out some ´super cool waterfalls. We ended by crawling into a secret lava tube and sang together Hey Jude. Where else than in Iceland? I cannot recommend this tour enough, and Sigga "the adventure troll" is the guide you should ask for, she is both funny and knowledgeable (and she knows some cool circus tricks!) and p.s. We got all kinds of weathers which apparently.. is what you should expect when in Iceland - so definitely dress accordingly!
Best day of my life (so far)! If you have not been on a glacier yet, then this is the tour. Im not going to spoil it. Just book it, trust me on this one ;)
What a life experience this tour is! I really wanted to see what Iceland has to offer and this tour is exaclty what I was looking for. I wanted to see the plane wreak without driving myself. I didn't find any tour company that went there but then I found Troll Expeditions and I'm so glad! This tour is so awesome, I still have a big smile on my face every time I think of it. I got to see everything and more. The views were breathtaking and all of the places we went to didn't feel very ,,touristy,, which I love. Our guide was knowledgeable, funny and so friendly. This tour is demanding because it's a lot of walking but our guide was very understanding and helpful so I didn't feel left out at all. Highly recommend this tour!
Wow! What an awesome experience! We had a wonderful time enjoying the gorgeous beauty of the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue, the DC3 plain wreak and a swim in Seljalallalaug and a spooky cave, The guide was Punctual, knowledgeable, fun and friendly with safety first . The views were sensational, the waterfalls.on the way back had hidden gems which have provided memories that will live long in the mind. A real one off experience you will struggle to get anywhere else in the world. Highly recommend it
This tour has got to be the best thing to do while in Iceland, my friends and I traveled around the whole country and this tour was what made the whole trip complete. The intimate group setting allows you to ask any and all the questions you have for the guide. Our guide was awesome and really made us feel comfortable with everything we would do, like hike a DAMN GLACIER!! We were able to do all the things you could want to in one day, its more than 100% worth doing.
I cannot express strongly enough how amazing this tour was, given this opportunity I want to take a moment to thank the company and Guide for a life changing tour My friend and I agreed this was by far the most awesome guided tour we had been on to date. We did the Sólheimajökull glacier hike along with a DC3 plane wreck and I Just loved it. Small group experience.
Absolutely awesome! A great option for the person that normally doesn't do tours. It felt more like a group get together to go explore. Glacier hiking was an amazing experience as well as seeing and experiencing the sights. Tour guide was awesome also! Definitely recommend this company if you want fun, adventure, and a unique experience in Iceland.
Alba Maria Rodriguez Valle
It was amazing and funny tour! No much time to stay for long in one place but if you in hurry to see the main places and you stay only for a few days, it's the best choice!
We had a very special, personalized tour of the south coast of Iceland. Myself, my friend, and another couple rounded out our 4 person (+awesome guide Siggy) tour. We explored many high traffic areas, including Seljalandsfoss and the black sands beach of Vík, however we definitely got the "behind the scenes" tour at each location. We had a lot of freedom in designing our day tour. We ended up stopping at a bunch of spots that weren't listed on the tour description, but were interesting and a ton of fun. We wandered through a sheep farmstead and got to go all the way up Dyrhólaey (a definite highlight of the afternoon). I highly recommend Troll Expeditions to anyone looking for a unique and personalized tour of Iceland! This was definitely the highlight of our 10 day vacation to Iceland!
Out of all the day tours out there you can't miss this one! The day I had it I was very lucky to have Ingo as my guide, truly an amazing and entertaining human being to hang around with haha! It was so much joy and so many laughters. A lot of the hiking though which will probably drain your energy but so much fun at the same time! If you ever travel to Iceland you need to check this tour out if you wanna have a wild and crazy adventure, they'll share all the useful tips for your trip, play you awesome Icelandic musics, and make you feel like a VIP in Iceland
I really had a really good time in this tour!! Our guide is so kind and friendly. I go for this tour cos I want to see the plane wreck. It's so awesome. Going to glacier is also a very fantastic experience. It's safe as the tour provides enough gear.
This tour was absolutely worth it! It was a long and exhausting day, but it was so packed with so many beautiful sights and fun activities that I felt very accomplished at the end of the day. Ingo was our guide for the day and he proved himself to be very easy-going, witty, and highly knowledgeable. The glacier hike was my favorite part of the adventure, although all of the other spots that we visited were incredible in their own right. I will definitely book a tour with Troll Expeditions the next time I'm in Iceland, and I will certainly be spreading the word about Troll Expeditions to all of my friends. Takk fyrir!!!
Of all the tours I did during my week in Iceland, I can easily say this was the best one. Ingo was an amazing tour guide, and really took the time to make sure we all saw what we wanted too. He was very insightful and full of knowledge. The small groups really do make the tours much more enjoyable. I'd definitely recommend to anybody visiting Iceland this is a MUST!
Luca De Franco
I had an amazing time on this tour! Ingo is an amazing, personable guide who knows the country well. Each of the stops on the tour was great. I personally recommend the glacier hiking and the Seljavallalaug pool. If you're in Iceland for any amount of days, take this tour or another offered by Troll Expeditions.
Ingo is an excellent guide. He is friendly, helpful and knowledgable . My family enjoyed so much in glacier hiking and lave caving which are quite special activities that you can participate in Iceland.
Ingo is the best tour guide I have ever had. This sounds fake, but it is not, I'm never so full of praise but he really made our day wonderful. We only had 2 days in Iceland and I'm so glad we decided to spend it on this trip. I would recommend this trip for anyone. I went with a good friend, but because this tour was so great, I want to come back and next time bring my mom as well.
I joined three tours in Iceland and this one is the best. Ingo is an experience and responsible tour guide. He made the trip funny and interesting.
My husband had a great time on this tour, we totally recomend this tour especially if you habe done the south coast. Glacier hiking, skogafoss waterfall, seljalandsfoss, lava cave and the hot pool. Beautiful landscapes and a fun guide, Ingo.
It was a great day at the South Coast, with hikes, visiting the crashed aircraft, the waterfalls Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss, a hike on the glacier, a hike to a hot pot and finally the visit to the lava cave. We were just 2 guests on this tour with 2 guides, Ingo and Stefan which were both extremely helpful, funny, and told us a lot about Iceland and its geographic characteristics. If you like hiking on different kinds of soil and in different areas, when you're interested in the country, and its people then I can only recommend this excursion. I will spend another holiday in Iceland in the future and this is Ingo's and Stefan's fault! ;-)
I wished for a long time to visit Iceland and there I am with my sister and friend. We chose this excursion because it seemed complete and I am glad we did. We saw 3 waterfalls for a start amazingly beautiful with blue sky and green grass landscapes ; the glacier, my number one experience ; the hot spring between mountains, the body of the aircraft and the lava cave. All of them were impressive in one's way and certainly worthy to see. The plus of this excursion was our guide Ingo, very helpful, instructive, pleasant and funny. I definitely recommend this excursion.
We were a group of 3 French girls wanted to hit Iceland with this excursion which looked like a complete version of what types of activities you might find inside the country and we were super satisfied : the glacier and the waterfalls experiences are our top ones but the rest are also worth to see. We were hosted by Troll guide Ingo, he was excellent, very friendly, nice and super funny. He was a real plus to this excursion. He made us enjoyed the day. Also, we were taught of the culture and history during the road trip. We definitely recommend this excursion. You would enjoy. ;)
This expedition was definitely the highlight of our trip to Iceland. We were picked up at our hotel door by Ingo, the owner of Troll Expeditions, who was also our guide for the day. He definitely did not disappoint. He was well-prepared, knowledgeable, and extremely courteous to all those in attendance. Probably the thing we enjoyed the most was the fact that Ingo seemed to be getting just as much enjoyment from the expedition as the rest of us were. He was equally as interested in our cultures and history as we were in his. Knowing that he is also a professional guide who climbs in the Himalayas was especially comforting to my wife when it came to walking on the glacier and exploring the rougher terrain in the lava tube. At all times Ingo assisted in whatever way he could and taught safety whenever it was necessary. As far as we're concerned, he sets the gold standard when it comes to showing tourists a good time in nature. (And no, we're not related, nor do we own shares in his company... Although we do now consider him to be a great friend.)
This is the perfect tour to see the best spots on the South Coast and experience amazing adventures on an itinerary that does not feel rushed at all. As a guide, Ingo was knowledgeable, fun and friendly and since he is a professional adventurer and mountaineer, I knew I was in good hands even if I was not experienced when it comes to exploring lava caves or glacier hiking (which can only be done with a guide). This tour was full of wild, unspoiled landscapes and unique once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as the secret waterfall, lava caves. glacier hike, plane wreckage site and thermal pool. I wouldn't explore the South Coast any other way and can highly recommend Troll Tours.
We were in Iceland for a week and this tour was easily the highlight. The guide, Ingo, is very experienced in all things outdoors so he is extremely helpful, informative, and adventurous. The entire day was filled with breathtaking sights and activities, including seeing massive waterfalls, hiking on a glacier, and wakling through a 5000 year old lava tube. This day trip shows you the highlights of Iceland that make it so unique from the rest of the world. It opens your eyes to the amazing landscape that surrounds you and helps you find your inner explorer. The small group size is fantastic as well. With a big tour group, your time and freedom is extremely limited. When I went with Troll Tour, we only had seven people, allowing us the option to wander and explore the sights as we pleased. And that was very cool, especially since the sights included volcanoes, glaciers, and a 60 year old plane crash. I think I did more things during this one tour than I have in years of traveling. It was lit! I would definitely recommend Troll Tour to anyone wanting to experience Iceland on an new and personal level.
This is a tour that you must join while you visit Iceland, definitely my best day during my stay! The guide is so nice, informative & took very good care of us. The most unforgettable attraction is the black sand beach which is also the DC3 place wreck site, i don't think there is another unique attraction like this in the rest of the world. The guide also provides a lot of facts & information while we do the glaciers hiking & get inside of the lava tube, which makes us know more about this incredible country that we might not know from books or internet. I will definitely recommend this tour to all who is coming to Iceland & you will never regret it. Keep up the good work Troll Tour!
