Explore the incredible world of Iceland's glaciers and volcanoes. On this tour, you'll have an exclusive opportunity to explore a hidden side of one of the most powerful subglacial volcanos in the world, Katla, beneath Mýrdalsjökull Glacier.
This tour departs from Vík and takes you right to the foot of the glacier, a place virtually untouched by man, surrounded by magnificent landscapes, distinctively shaped mountains, interesting textures and awe-inspiring colours. This is a little travelled region you are likely to have all to yourself, as it is not frequented by tour buses.
This tour, however, will show you much more of Iceland than Katla. While no doubt the highlight, there are many other beautiful features on Iceland's South Coast, waiting for you to marvel over them.
During your adventure, you will also visit Reynisfjall Mountain, where you can see Reynisdrangar basalt rock formations, which jut tall from the churning ocean, from above. You’ll be able to look down at the black-sand-beach, a famous site called Reynisfjara.
The Mýrdalssandur Desert is next on your quest, a mysterious and exciting area to drive through. As a bonus, you will also visit a historical mountain hut that is alleged to be haunted and the Hjörleifshöfði plateau mountain, which is an area immortalised in countless films, TV advertisements, and music videos.
After ample time at those locations, you'll end our journey at a stunning waterfall that emerges from the ice at the foot of the glacier.
So come along with us, and check out the world beneath Katla volcano and Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Check availability by choosing a date.
