The museum's permanent exhibition, The Making of a Nation - Heritage and History in Iceland, boasts around 2,000 artifacts from the settlement period to today. Its 1,000 20th-century photos also help bring the past to life. Together, they take visitors on a journey through time.

Guided tours are free with your admission ticket and available on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. If you can't make it to a scheduled time, you can use the audio guide with several languages available. 

Your ticket also entitles you to attend any scheduled lectures free of charge. Tours for children are on the first Sunday of the month at 2:00 p.m. between October and May.

The National Museum of Iceland is in central Reykjavik. It's just southwest of Tjornin pond and next to Hljomskala park. Therefore, you can easily enjoy the city's green spaces before or after your museum visit.

You can visit the museum anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. It's closed on Mondays during winter, but otherwise, open daily.
