This buggy tour in Þórsmörk is pretty adventurous, including river crossings.

Join a highland adventure on this adrenaline-driven tour to Þórsmörk! You are in for a treat because there is no better way to visit this highland oasis than in a Buggy. The hidden valley of the thunder god Þór is truly a natural gem and every Icelander’s favourite place to be.

Situated in the south of Iceland, between the glaciers Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull, the beautiful valley is hiding. During the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull volcano, much of the area was covered with a thick layer of volcanic ash. It took mother nature months to return the area to its normal state and now it looks as good as ever.

This is a meet-on-location tour, and you must meet up with your guide at Nauthúsagil canyon. After being provided with all necessary gear and a safety briefing, you jump on board the Buggy, strap yourself in, and off you go.

The Buggies are special 2-seat all-terrain sports vehicles, equipped with a 4-point safety harness, surrounded by a roll cage. The automatic transmission makes life easier behind the wheel. All you need is a spirit of adventure, a valid driving license for the driver—and a high tolerance to dirt.

The road is a gravel road, so you will have that real off-road feeling, putting your driving abilities to the test. You will be crossing several rivers and streams, so make sure to follow the lead of your guide.

You will make a stop at Gígjökull glacier, and explore the after-effects of the 2010 eruption. Your guide will tell you about the area, and the glacier lagoon that used to be there. Now the glacier itself is almost gone, and the lagoon itself has disappeared completely.

As you drive further into the valley, you may have time to take a short hike into a narrow canyon, Stakkholtsgjá, to explore a hidden waterfall.

Further into the valley, you will visit the Básar area, where you can take a short hike, with a stunning view out the whole valley. When it is time to head back, you may want to change seats with your partner, allowing them the chance to test their river-crossing and off-road-driving abilities.

Explore the Icelandic highlands in the most fun way and add some thrill to your day. Check availability by choosing a date.
