Iceland On Your Own | Beautiful South Circle Passport

Enjoy the South Coast of Iceland on your terms by booking the ‘Beautiful South Circle Bus Passport’ for your holiday. With this pass, you can hop onto buses without charge along a selected route to get to see some of Iceland’s most famous and incredible sites.

The ‘circle’ you will take brings you from Reykjavík to Skaftafell Nature Reserve and back via two fantastic routes; you can choose which to take over there, and which to return on. One will bring you all along the southern shore, through coastal villages and past iconic sites such as Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, and the black-sand-beach of Reynisfjara.

The other cuts inland, into the Highlands, to one of the country’s most beautiful spots: the Landmannalaugar region. This is a favourite amongst hikers, as it leads to the Laugavegur trek, but even those without an interest in this will be awed by the colourful mountains, geothermal areas and lava fields.

You will choose whether to take this route clockwise or anti-clockwise; if you wish to backtrack, you will have to buy a ticket but will receive a 10% discount on all ‘Iceland On Your Own’ buses.

The same discount applies if you want to extend your journey down a route excluded on this passport, but included on others; you could, for example, go on from Skaftafell to see the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, or even cut north through the Highlands from Landmannalaugar to reach the Lake Mývatn area.

The Beautiful South Circle Bus Passport allows you to explore unbeholden to anyone else; you don’t need to worry about tour guides or other guests, nor have concerns about driving. The only thing you need to be aware of is your bus timetable; while most locations will have several buses leaving them every day, a few only have one, so ensure you don’t miss it.

It is wise to book your accommodation well in advance; hotels and guesthouses are almost always full during peak season, and even spaces at campsites can get competitive. If you reserve your places early, however, you will find a wealth of options all along the south shore.

This circle can be done in a few days, or you could take it slowly to appreciate every spot if you would rather. Your ticket is valid from June 13th to September 7th, so unless you have pressing flights, there is no reason to rush.

The final advantage of booking this bus passport is the price. For those travelling on somewhat of a budget, it eliminates the cost of renting a car, hiring a private guide, or taking tours to each destination.

Do not hesitate to see the south shore and Landmannalaugar; book your Beautiful South Circle Bus Passport today. Check availability by choosing a date.
