Description
Summary
Description
Learn all about Reykjavík, the capital city of Iceland, on this guided walking tour. Visit its iconic landmarks, immerse yourself in its art and architecture, and discover the history of the Icelandic people.
This tour begins when you meet your guide and group at the statue of Leifur Eiríksson in front of Hallgrímskirkja Church.
You will then be guided down the hill, to what is locally known as ‘the Pond’. The architecture of the surrounding buildings, including the Culture House and the National Gallery of Iceland, are beautiful, and you will have the opportunity to feed the geese, ducks and swans who reside in the water year-round.
You will then enter City Hall, right nearby, to an enormous topographical map of Iceland. Here, your guide will tell you all about the country's geological and volcanic history, and how this played into the development of the nation and its character.
Next, you will see the parliament building, the Althing, which is the current site world's longest-running, ongoing parliament (having been created in Þingvellir in 930 AD). Beside this is the country's modest cathedral, and the surrounding houses are some of the oldest in Reykjavík.
One of its newest buildings, however, is the next stop: Harpa Concert Hall. The architecture of this site is modern, dramatic and beautiful, and in the short time it has existed, it has cemented itself as a vital part of the capital’s character.
You will then walk along the edge of the sea to the final spot on this tour, the Sólfar sculpture. This fascinating feature, the metal skeleton of a Viking ship, points out to the bay, where there are incredible views over the tabletop mountain, Esja.
Don't miss this immersive, affordable, relaxing tour through the beautiful streets of Iceland’s capital. Enjoy Reykjavík in a whole new way. Check availability by choosing a date.
