See some of the most amazing sceneries of Iceland in one day on this specially designed Shore Excursion tour for Cruisers.

This is a 10hrs tour but can be cut shorter depending on departure of the ship.

Our first stop on the Golden Circle is the National Park Thingvellir with its geological and historical wonders.

Thingvellir is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1986. This has always been very important place for the Icelanders. Here is where Viking settlers established the first parliament in the world, called Althing in the year 930 AD. This was a Viking-style parliament where chieftains from all corners of the island came together for the ruling of the country, to make decisions and settle arguments. Not only the chieftains came here for two weeks every summer, they had followers who would join them. The public came as well for trading goods and livestock, changing gossip, solving problems and disputes. People came to meet other people, learn what was going on in the country, making marriage arrangements, take part in sporting games such as horse-racing, wrestling, football and more. This was also a feast of eating and drinking, singing and dancing. A festival that no one wanted to miss out on.

Thingvellir National Park is a unique place between the North American and the Euro-Asian continental plates. It is a valley constantly being stretched and broken up as you will clearly see by the enormous cracks in the surface of the earth. Next stop is the Geysir Geothermal Park.  The hot spring Strokkur shoots boiling water high in the air every 5 minutes or so.  The breathtaking Golden Waterfall cascades 35m in 3 steps in to a great canyon. We stop where you can walk out to platforms, having a grand view over this glorious waterfall. Walking down the steps, you stand on the edge of the deep canyon with a spray of glacial water from the waterfall in your face.

We now whisk comfortably towards the South Coast, with its beautiful white glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, the steep cliffs of the South Coast mountain range with waterfalls cascading in a 60m drop down from the mountains. Seljalandsfoss is a tall waterfall you can walk behind. This is a very unique experience. Under the ice-cap of the Glaciers are dormant volcanos. When they erupt and melt its way through the glacier, we get this powdery ash in the air. We all remember 2010 when ash from Eyjafjallajökull grounded all airplanes in Europe for 3 weeks.

On this journey you will notice dramatic changes in the landscape as we travel through rough lava-fields and luscious farmlands in a smooth mini-bus. You will see cattle, sheep and the world-known Icelandic Viking-horse. You will see canyons, mountains, glaciers, huge cracks in the earth’s surface as we cross over between the tectonic plates, waterfalls, hills, lakes, black sandy beaches, volcanos and vast wilderness.

This is a Shore Excursion tour designed for you if you have only one day in Iceland.
