Discover the Icelandic Highlands during a thrilling Buggy ride on this day tour to the Landmannalaugar region. If you’re a travelling daredevil or hiker, wishing to behold and experience the magnificent landscapes of the Central Highlands, this is the tour for you.
Your adventure begins as you meet on location at Hrauneyjar. This area can be reached by a normal car, making this excursion perfect for those renting a car and not an extravagant 4x4 jeep during their stay in Iceland.
After meeting with your friendly local guide and getting geared up with gloves, helmet, overalls and balaclavas, it’s time to rev up your engine and head for the geothermal paradise of Landmannalaugar.
There might be no better way to experience the Highlands than from the back of a Buggy. You’ll be driving through the wild and rugged mountains of the Fjallabak Nature Reserve, dotted with deeply incised valleys and unbelievable natural sceneries.
The ride both back and forth will take you approximately six or seven hours, meaning you’ll get plenty of time to get to know your vehicle and trying your luck on the wild gravel roads. All around you, there will be rhyolite mountains, lush valleys, volcanic terrain and staggering natural beauty.
The carefully crafted route contains several pseudo-craters and lakes, where you can experience first-hand how volcanoes, earthquakes and geothermal activity affect and shape the landscape of the Central Highlands.
Arriving at Landmannalaugar, you’ll stop to rest and admire the otherworldly scenery, with the added chance of a rewarding soak in a natural geothermal hot spring. It goes without saying that you should not forget your bathing suit, towel or camera!
Driving back to base camp, you’ll take a different route of roads less travelled, fully taking in the melting pot of geothermal landscapes at hand.
