Small Group 8-Hour Kayaking Tour in the Westfjords with Transfer from Isafjordur
Description
Summary
Description
Explore two incredible fjords in the Westfjords on an unforgettable kayaking tour from Isafjordur. This trip is perfect for adventurous travelers who want to see the beautiful nature of the remote Westfjords region on a guided kayaking excursion.
Your tour begins at the meeting point in Isafjordur, the largest town in the Westfjords region. Head to Mavagardur C, a grey building close to the town's eastern harbor.
Here, you'll meet the expert local guide leading your kayaking trip and any other passengers joining the excursion.
This trip is a small-group tour with a maximum of six guests. This group size means you can enjoy a more personal tour and ask plenty of questions as you journey through the peaceful fjords.
When everyone is ready, you'll take a 40-minute drive to the Seydisfjordur fjord. You'll board your kayak and receive a thorough safety briefing. Your guide will give you a paddling lesson to help you navigate the water easily.
When you feel confident, it's time to set off. Today's journey takes you through the Snaefjallastrond region, known for the birdlife living in its cliffs. Curious seals and whales also call this water home. You might see some during the day if you're lucky.
Snow-capped hills will surround you, and you can enjoy distant glacier views as you paddle.
Your guide will lead you through the Seydisfjordur fjord along the Folafotur headland. Erosion has formed unusual coastal formations here, and your guide will point out picturesque points to take a quick photo.
You'll also see the ruins of a former settlement. About 100 people used to live here, and your guide will tell you more about the area's history as you pass.
Next, the group will kayak to the island of Vigur, home to large puffin colonies. Throughout the summer, up to 100,000 puffins nest here, so you have an excellent chance of spotting this adorable bird if you have yet to see one during your trip to Iceland.
If sea conditions are reasonable, you'll have a break at Vigur to eat your lunch among the puffins and take photos.
After a break, if the group still has enough energy, you'll continue to the Hestfjordur fjord. A seal colony lives at the peninsula's tip, so you might see some swimming as you paddle.
Once you arrive, it's time to start the return journey. You'll pause for another break on the way before getting out of your kayak at the starting point. You'll then be driven back to Isafjordur.
On this fantastic kayaking tour, explore two incredible bays in the Westfjords and visit the Vigur island puffin colony. Check availability now by choosing a date.
