Experience the heat with this fantastic helicopter flight visiting Iceland's most breathtaking, active volcanoes, including the infamous Eyjafjallajökull and Hekla.
Your volcanic adventure begins at the tour office, Hangar 6, situated just beside Reykjavík Domestic Aiport. Here, your friendly, knowledgeable and highly-trained pilot will run through the tour's itinerary and show you the day's flight path on a map.
First, you will visit Þorvaldseyri, a small farmstead found at the bottom of the awe-inspiring Eyjafjallajökull volcano. There, you will find a visitor's centre (open May 15th - September 15th) where you can learn in-depth about the most recent volcanic eruptions in Iceland's history. Eyjafjallajökull erupted last in April 2010, causing significant disruption to European air travel and acting as a heavy burden amongst the local population.
Next, you will see firsthand the geological changes this last eruption made, flying up and over Eyjafjallajökull to see the aftermath for yourself. On the other side of the volcano, you will glide over the protected wooded valley of Þórsmörk, an area famous for its hiking trails and a wide variety of floral species. Don't forget to bring your camera along for the trip; you'll definitely want to take some photographs.
Finally, on your return journey to the capital, you will fly past the mighty Hekla, a stratovolcano that reaches 1491m. Your pilot will point out the thick layers of dried lava built up all around the volcano itself, an insight into the volcanoes terrifying potential! Your tour will last, approximately, two and a half hours from start to finish.
The helicopter fleet is expertly maintained and equipped with the most modern equipment available, ensuring your comfort, safety and enjoyment throughout the tour.
