Head to one of Reykjavík’s local breweries and enjoy the country’s culture of craft beer on this tasting tour. This excursion should not be missed by anyone who wants to have a great experience in the capital city, enjoys their tipple, or wants to gear up for a night out.

This tour begins with a pickup from Reykjavík; once your group is gathered, you’ll be whisked to the nearby Ölgerðin brewery, one of the country’s oldest breweries. Once here, you will meet your friendly hosts, who will begin to introduce you to the history and culture of drinking in Iceland.

From the range of flavours you will taste, you would think that Iceland has a storied heritage with beer. The opposite is, in fact, the case. Beer was banned in the country until 1989 for a century due to the belief it caused aggressive behaviour. Since then, however, the industry of its production has blossomed, and the local's brew is now internationally renowned.

This tour will also expose you to the alcoholic drinks Icelanders substituted for beer in the darkest days of their history. This includes a native mead and the national spirit, Brennivín. There will also be soft drinks available to keep you on your feet.

The drinking age for Iceland is twenty, so this tour is only for those this age and above. Other than that, anyone is welcome to come and join the fun.

After a fascinating and fun tour of the brewery, and the tasting of many unique Icelandic craft beers, you will be returned to Reykjavík. Now would be a great time to let your buzz continue, and to head out and enjoy the pumping nightlife of the vibrant capital city.

I'm not sure I agree with the description "cultural activity" but this certainly was a whole lot of fun! We were given a fair number of beers to try, and throughout the evening we were given a lively history of Iceland's bizarre relationship with alcohol, from Vikings, to wars to the modern day, all of which was interesting and a bit mad. There was no tour of the brewery showing us how the beer was made, but I don't think anybody missed that! We also got on so well with the other folk in our group we all headed out to carry on the party when we got back to Reykjavik! Highly recommended, but make sure you have a decent dinner first...

Fantastic! A startling amount and good variety of complimentary beer is made available and the tour guide was a total riot. Highly recommended!
