Hop on this exciting ATV tour to Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull volcanoes, making a number of stops at roaring rivers, waterfalls and caves, all found in the Icelandic countryside. This tour is for anyone looking for more action on their vacation or those who just can’t get enough of Iceland’s glaciers and volcanoes.

Get ready for an easy 2-3 hour adventure suited to almost everyone—and don’t worry if you haven’t tried an ATV before; your friendly and experienced guide will make sure to take you step-by-step through the process.

You'll meet your tour guides at the ATV base in Lambalækur, heading north toward Þríhyrningur mountain, ploughing through the riverbeds on your all-terrain vehicle. The view from the mountain is wonderful; sweeping panoramas from the height of 678 m (2,224 ft).

Þríhyrningur is a tuff ring surrounding a crater formed by the explosive power of a volcanic eruption. The force of the eruption blasted ash, rock and other materials high into the air, which then fell to earth and compacted into this special type of rock. By seeing attractions such as this, you can gain a real insight into the geological makeup of Iceland as a landmass.

This was also the location where the villainous Flosi, of the Saga of Burnt Njal, hid after burning down the farmhouse at Bergþórshvoll, with the titular character and his family still inside. In this sense, the region has even inspired great works of literature.

Continuing with another site of historical interest, you'll visit a cave by the river Fiská, where Irish monks lived, even before the first settlers came from Norway. From here, you’ll have a great view of Hekla and Mt. Tindfjöll. You'll pause for a break and enjoy a hot cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate as you look out over the land.

Take a chance on an ATV and zoom across the Icelandic lava fields! Check availability by choosing a date.
