Come aboard for a rollicking adventure on this whale watching tour from Dalvík in North Iceland. If you're a lover of wildlife and nature, grab this unique opportunity to spot humpback whales, minke whales and, often, pods of white-beaked dolphin, all in their natural habitat.

You will meet up with your local guide at the harbour of Dalvík, from where you will set sails out to the beautiful fjord Eyjafjörður, one of the pearls of the North and home to a myriad of marine animals and birds.

Although whales habituate the coastal waters all around Iceland, the Northern towns of Húsavik, Akureyri and Dalvík take the crown for their constant and breath-taking sightings.

On rare occasions, even orca pods and blue whales have been spotted moving in from the Atlantic. Luckily, each boat ride of this tour lasts a full three hours, which is more than enough time to catch these graceful marine giant breaching, fluking and feeding.

There is also the opportunity for you to see a wide variety of seabirds on your trip, including puffins. You can also expect to try your hands at sea angling, providing all the guests aboard with a meal. This catch of the day is cooked to perfection, served fresh on the boat with a cup of hot drink—a worthy and delicious treat for any seafarer.

The boat staff will offer you warm overalls to ensure you can enjoy spotting whales from the deck in peace. All you need to bring is a thick hat, a pair of woollen gloves, and a sense of wonder.

The trip was perfectly planned and good warm overalls were provided. The ship was a bit crowded but perfectly suited for the trip. My personal reason for 4 out of 5 stars is the lack of seen/diverse wildlife. We only saw two types of birds and one humpback whale who wasn't really as interested or playful like whales e.g. in California. So it was rather boring. There was a short sea angling experience, for those who were interested, but bad luck in gaming enough for barbecue.

For most tourists Dalvik is a little out of the way, but as my husband and I were staying in Olafsfjordur (the next town north), we found this a perfect group to go whale watching with. The provided overalls are clean and warm (important this close to the Arctic Circle), and the boat is well cared for. Our tour guide spoke very good English, and was very knowledgeable about the wildlife likely to be found on the tour. Not only did we see two humpback whales and several types of sea birds, but the views of this fjord are breathtakingly beautiful. Sea angling at the end of the tour was fun, even if the fish weren't much interested in being caught that day. Other passengers on the tour did catch enough to offer us all a small taste of grilled fish at the end, and overall the whole experience was incredible. If you're like me, and like to get off the beaten path, this is an excellent place to do that!
