Whales & Sails at Húsavík
Come and join us on a beautiful autumn sailing in the fantastic sceneries of Skjálfandi bay in north Iceland. This tour is the full experience. It combines two of our favourite activities, whale watching and sailing.
In this 3+ hour sailing tour, you can experience quiet whale watching under full sails with the engine shut. The perfect add to the experience is being able to witness how the nature and growth in the beautiful surrounding mountains prepares itself for the winter season. The low autumn sun and all the mixed colours fit beautifully with exploring the whales of the bay.
The most common whales in the bay are Humpback whales and Minke whales. In the past few years, the amazing Blue whale has also been a frequent visitor. Other species also visit the bay, for example, Fin whales, Sei whales and Orcas.
Your tour will start in the North Sailing ticket office in the picturesque town of Húsavík where you collect your boarding pass. With the boarding pass in your hands you can step on board our traditional oak schooner. Expected is a 3+ hour whale watching tour.
North Sailing has offered scheduled whale watching tours since 1995. North Sailing is also the only whale watching company in Iceland to offer their guests the experience of whale watching while under full sails on a traditional schooner. After few years of developing their products, North Sailing got an old fishing boat that was renovated by the team. The outcome was the beautiful schooner, Haukur. A few years later the schooner with the white sails, Hildur, joined the family. These two schooners are still the most beautiful boats in our fleet.
Go ahead and book this fantastic sailing adventure with North Sailing on one our beautiful schooners. Explore the wildlife, dress up in the overalls we provide on board and treat yourself to a hot cup of chocolate and cinnamon buns. We will make sure your experience will be as enjoyable as possible. Discover nature in the shadow of the great white sails! Check the booking availability by choosing a date.

Husavik in Skjalfandi Bay in North Iceland is called the whale watching capital of the world.
Whale watching is highly recommended from Húsavík and visiting the village whale museum. Other places that visitors might like to visit are the wooden Húsavíkurkirkja church, built in 1907, and the civic museum for culture and biology, which amongst other things features a stuffed polar bear and ancient boats, bearing witness to the history of seafaring in Iceland.
In Húsavík you'll find cute cafés and restaurants offering tasty treats, and you'll have a gorgeous view over the Skjálfandi Bay from this small town of about 2,000 inhabitants.
