Don't miss out on this adventurous day tour to the surreal, yet sublime, Landmannalaugar, one of the country's most wild and beautiful spots. This tour is the perfect opportunity for travellers hoping to experience some of the lesser-visited regions during their time in Iceland.
You will leave Iceland's charming capital city, Reykjavik, in the early morning, setting out towards the gorgeous Highlands in a specially modified super jeep, the perfect vehicle for traversing Landmannalaugar's tricky terrain. One of the first stops of the day is Hjalparfoss, one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls.
From there, the tour continues through the amazing and dramatic mountainscapes that so characterise the area. You will stumble across the water-filled crater, Ljótipollur, one of the highlights of the day, before entering the Highlands themselves. When you do so, you will be immediately overcome with the colourful, kaleidoscopic hillsides visible from every window of your Super Jeep.
In the heart of Landmannalaugar, you will have the chance to take a bath in a natural hot spring. The area is dotted with geothermally heated pools, landing the region the title "The Pools of the People".
Please make sure to bring a towel and swimwear if you're looking to enjoy these soothing waters, all the while surrounded by the dazzling rhyolite mountains. Alternatively, you could decide to take a small hike through the area.
After your visit to the pool or short hike, the super jeep makes the return trip to Reykjavik. On this route on clear days, you can often glimpse the imposing Mount Hekla, one of Iceland’s most active and historically significant volcanoes.
Known through the centuries as the “Gateway to Hell” and "Queen of Icelandic Volcanoes," Hekla has erupted multiple times since Iceland’s early settlement, shaping the surrounding terrain with layers of ash and lava. As you pass near the volcano, your guide will share stories about its powerful eruptions, legends, and lasting influence on Icelandic culture.
So hurry now! Don't miss your chance to visit this surreal and fantastical area for a unique chance to explore the Icelandic central highlands. Check availability by choosing a date.
