Join this tour for an afternoon of easy riding and fun for the whole family. This tour is for any level of rider, and is a wonderful experience for animal lovers, families or groups or anyone who loves the Icelandic countryside. Tours are kept to 20 people or fewer, in order to ensure that all riders get personal attention and all the relaxation they could want.

You'll be picked up in Reykjavik and brought to the spacious Riding Centre just outside the city. The grounds feature a large paddock and barn, along with dogs, cats and bunnies for guests to pet.

To start the tour, you’ll learn about the history of the Icelandic horse, a hardy breed brought to Iceland by the first settlers. Then, you’ll be matched with a horse that suits your experience level and mount up.

The tour will go slowly so that all riders feel comfortable and safe. Your guide will lead you through well-kept trails in the fields around the riding center. You’ll see the craggy lava fields, filled with creeping moss, thorny bushes and rock formations that make a perfect backdrop for a keepsake photo. The beautiful Bláfjöll mountains loom in the distance.

The Icelandic horse is a gentle, friendly breed known for its bushy hair and thick, wiry winter coat. These sturdy animals are built to survive through the Nordic winters. What you may not know by looking at them is that the horse has a silky-smooth gait, known as the tölt.

The tölt is designed for the speed and comfort of the rider crossing long distances, a helpful trick for the Viking who needs to cross a fjord in a single day.

Don't miss your chance to take a relaxing saunter through the countryside on an Icelandic horse. Check availability by choosing a date.

This was so fun!

We enjoyed the family horseback riding tour very much! The guides and staff were very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable! I was quite nervous, as this was my first time riding a horse. Our guide made me feel safe and reassured throughout the tour. They helped me to mount and dismount, and helped me during the ride (my horse did not like staying in line with the others!). We also had plenty of time before the tour to pick our helmets and outerwear, enjoy some coffee, and relax! The only part of the tour that I would have changed was that we did not get to pet the dogs, cats, and bunnies at the barn like the tour description said. This was one of the reasons we chose this tour over all the other ones. Other than that, we are very happy with this tour and would recommend it!
