Reindeer were imported to Iceland from Norway in the 18th century in the interest of cultivating their meat and hides. However, Icelandic people were not as prone to reindeer husbandry as their native Scandinavian cousins, and the animals were left undomesticated and free to roam the wilderness.

Today, reindeer can only be found in East Iceland, inhabiting from the vast expanse around Snæfell to as far as the glacier lagoon. During the summer months, reindeer tend to stay at higher elevations, moving down to grassier lowlands during the winter to feed. Sightings are best when the reindeer migrate to and from the valley.

Led by a local specialist guide, this 4-hour tour is a safe opportunity for a personal wilderness experiences. By tracking wild reindeer, you will get to know the lives of these extraordinary animals and the methods in which they master the harsh northern climate. You’ll also be able to acquire some excellent photographs of the animals.
