Admire the incredible sites of the Golden Circle, and see one of them in an exhilarating and unique new way with a snorkelling adventure in Silfra. This tour is perfect for those who want to see Iceland’s most famous places, but don’t want to miss out on any excitement.
You will be picked up in the morning and head straight towards your snorkel; nothing, after all, will wake you up like a plunge into Icelandic spring water.
Þingvellir, where Silfra is located, is within the rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, which are visible as soon as you enter the park. The geology and surrounding nature are breathtaking, and you will have your opportunity to explore them later in the day.
First, however, you will reach Silfra and get into your snorkelling gear. When you enter the ravine, you will be instantly mesmerised by its incredible beauty. Not only is it a dramatic gorge, up to 63 metres deep, but it is a freshwater spring, with some of the clearest naturally occurring water in the world; the visibility exceeds a hundred metres.
Once you have marvelled over this wonder, you will exit the water, get into your dry clothes, and start exploring Þingvellir. This park is not only famed for its geology but also its fascinating history. It was here, after all, that early Vikings formed a representative parliament in 930 AD, which still continues to this day. This makes Þingvellir the original site of the world’s longest-running parliament and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Following your walk through this area, you will head to the geothermal valley Haukadalur, home to hot springs, steam vents, and two geysers. The first of these was the first described in European literature and gave all others their name: Geysir itself. The second is Strokkur, which, unlike its neighbour, is incredibly active, erupting every ten minutes or so to heights of up to forty metres.
Finally, you will head to Iceland’s most famous waterfall, Gullfoss. This majestic natural feature tumbles in two tiers into a beautiful canyon, and there are several viewing platforms to admire it from. One of these sits just feet away from where the water is falling.
Do not hesitate to jump on this tour. Plunge into Silfra's depths, and explore the famed Golden Circle. Check booking availability by choosing a date.
