Bask in one of Iceland’s most beautiful geothermally heated swimming pools: the Secret Lagoon. This magical place is the perfect destination if you wish to relax and unwind during your time in Iceland.
You will be picked up in Reykjavík in the morning and from there you will start your trip over to the lagoon. Your journey will take you through the diverse scenery of West Iceland, so keep your camera ready; you are sure to pass some dramatic features, and probably a few Icelandic horses.
It takes just over an hour to reach Flúðir, the town of the Secret Lagoon. This is a mystical place due to the high level of geothermal activity in the area; steam rising from hot springs, fumaroles, and even a geyser shroud your destination, giving it a fantastical air of mystery. If you want to do more than just relax, you will be able to take a short walk around this geothermal area.
The Secret Lagoon is the oldest community swimming pool in Iceland and has plenty of historic charm. Though the pool itself has barely changed since its establishment in 1891, it has a wealth of modern amenities, such as a cafe, showers, and changing facilities, so you do not need to sacrifice your comfort to enjoy the timeless setting.
Make sure you remember your swimsuit for this tour, but do not worry about towels; they will be provided. If you do forget your swimming gear, it is possible to rent once you arrive.
As soon as you ease into the water, which is around 40 degrees Celsius, any stress or tension built up over your vacation will instantly wash away. Lying in the serene waters, the beautiful nature around you veiled in swirling steam is simply divine. If you are travelling with children, they will more than happily entertain themselves with the floats available.
Once you have fully recharged and admired the area, you will return to your bus for the scenic drive back to Reykjavík. You will arrive in the capital in the late afternoon, with enough time to make evening plans.
