Witness the glacier Snæfellsjökull and its incredible surrounding National Park over the course of two days on this fantastic biking tour. This excursion should not be missed by those who want to see the most spectacular scenery of Iceland while keeping fit and active on their holiday.

After arriving at the meeting point you will set off on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The Snæfellsjökull glacier crowns the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, which is nicknamed Miniature Iceland due to its wealth of diverse scenery. It is also the central feature of Snæfellsjökull National Park.

On your bike ride, you will witness dramatic coastlines, stunning beaches, craggy mountains, cascading waterfalls and, of course, the mighty glacier itself. You will also have the opportunity to explore the lava caves Sönghellir and Vatnshellir.

Your accommodation overnight is the charming Freezer Hostel, both a cultural centre and a theatre, conducting screenings every night.

As this tour is in the height of summer, you will be able to explore long into the night; the midnight sun means that there are no bounds to your sightseeing opportunities and you can chase the golden glow as long you're able and willing.

Do not miss this unique and adventurous way to explore one of Iceland’s crowning natural features. Check availability by choosing a date.

Daily itinerary

Day 1
One of the many quaint churches found on west Iceland's Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Day 1

Your tour begins when you meet your guides at the historic fishing village of Arnarstapi, where you will hear about your route and safety regulations before mounting up and setting out.

Your first destination of today is Sönghellir, a lava tube which means ‘song cave’ due to the unusual acoustics within, which requires you to ascend a beautiful hill and cross a lava field to reach. You will then reach a mountain peak before descending to the town of Ólafsvík for lunch.

In Ólafsvík, you will have an opportunity to explore the folk museum, and to peruse the local handicrafts. Once you are ready, you will continue along the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, through spectacular scenery, to the town of Ríf. Your hostel, the Freezer, awaits here, so after dinner you can enjoy a show.

You will travel 28 kilometres today.

Day 2
The Snæfellsnes Peninsula was once much more populous, and has many abandoned buildings.

Day 2

You will start today by watching the birds at the pond in Ríf, before continuing along the peninsula to the quaint village of Hellissandur to admire its beach. There are some ruins from World War II a little further at Gufuskálar.

Following this, you will take in the incredible lava fields, mountains, seascapes and views of Snæfellsjökull as you reach Vatnshellir cave for another underground exploration. You will then get to marvel over Saxhóll crater and Djúpalónssandur black pearl beach.

Finally, you will see the giant basalt plugs of Lóndrangar and the birdwatching cliffs of Svalþúfa, before reaching the village of Hellnar and returning to Arnarstapi.

You will travel 42 kilometres today.
