Discover the magic of the Reykjanes Peninsula on a tour from Reykjavik, including visits to the new lava field of Fagradalsfjall volcano and the Blue Lagoon. Travelers eager to witness a recent eruption site, a geothermal spa, and a wealth of hidden gems should not overlook this 11-hour tour.

This excursion begins when your friendly, local guide picks you and your group up from Reykjavik. You’ll then head for the Reykjanes Peninsula, which connects the capital to Keflavik International Airport.

Most travelers who fly into the country will see this region briefly as they head to Reykjavik, but few see it in depth. However, this barren landscape of volcanic and geothermal wonder has countless attractions.

You’ll start at the Seltun hot springs. Here, you can marvel over colorful, bubbling hot springs and learn about geothermal energy from the signs on site.

Next, you’ll head to Fagradalsfjall volcano in Geldingadalur valley, which erupted throughout 2021. The country’s most recent eruption, this is a magnificent place to marvel over some of the earth’s newest land.

The smell of burning still lingers, and many of the rocks are still too hot to touch due to the intensity of the heat of the volcano.

Fagradalsfjall volcano caused no serious injuries, damage, or issues to air travel but was still very powerful, with its lava jets visible from Reykjavik. There were also thousands of earthquakes that shook the capital before it started.

After this site, you’ll head to the Gunnuhver mud pits. Not only is this a dramatic geothermal site, but it’s steeped in the folklore of a vengeful ghost who a priest trapped in the steam.

As you continue, you’ll marvel over dramatic coastlines, towering islands, and basalt cliffs. You will then reach the Bridge Between the Continents, where you can walk from the North American tectonic plate to the Eurasian and back.

This rift between the plates is what causes Iceland’s volcanism, as they are slowly pulling apart.

You’ll finish your days of sightseeing at the Blue Lagoon, Iceland’s most famous and welcoming geothermal spa. The heated, azure waters have healing properties, and you can enjoy amenities such as saunas, steam rooms, and free silica masks.

Once you have rejuvenated, you’ll return to Reykjavik along the beautiful Reykjanes Peninsula.

Immerse yourself in the volcanic, geothermal wonder of the Reykjanes Peninsula with visits to the Blue Lagoon and Fagradalsfjall volcano. Check availability by choosing a date.
