Join this Super Jeep excursion from the South Iceland town Höfn to visit fjords, waterfalls, canyons and dramatic mountain passes. This hiking adventure is the perfect option for travellers staying in Höfn or renting a car from Reykjavík.

Your journey begins as you meet up with your local guide at the Höfn gas station. You will then board your Super Jeep, a modified mountain vehicle capable of taking you to the roads less paved to discover hidden gems off the beaten track.

Departing from Höfn, you’ll first visit the narrow and steep Almannaskarð pass, before arriving at the scenic Skútafoss waterfall. From there, you’ll continue into the Stafafell mountains, located in a peaceful area surrounded by magnificent nature.

Then, you’ll be driving to Hvanngil, a stunning canyon situated by the northern end of the Stafafell area. As you brave further along the mountain roads, you’ll visit another waterfall and the canyon Grenisgil, known to harbour nests of Arctic Foxes.

You’ll find the area dotted with magnificent colours and plentiful photo opportunities. The area is also very secluded, meaning there is a good chance you won’t run into any other travellers during your hike. You might, however, see some roaming reindeer.

After approximately four hours enjoying this incredible nature, you’ll return to the town of Höfn to stop for a lunch break. After lunch, you’ll be treated to a short walking tour through the town to learn its history better and get acquainted with the locals.

Your tour then ends at the gorgeous glacier lagoon Hoffell, small, pristine, peaceful and part of the greater Vatnajökull National Park. After having admired the lagoon and its ice cap, you’ll return to Höfn to say your goodbyes before continuing on your travels.

Don’t miss out on this local adventure in South-East Iceland, where you’ll discover some of the most enigmatic hidden gems of the Icelandic nature. Check availability by choosing a date.
