Take an adventurous horse ride and break up the journey by hot spring bathing in the Secret Lagoon with this wonderful combination tour. Those seeking authentic Icelandic experiences should book this adventure pass them by.

You’ll start this tour at the stables near the town of Flúðir where you will meet your guides and group. Here, you’ll receive a quick briefing, be equipped for your tour, and then be introduced to your steed.

Icelandic horses are marvellous animals. They are smaller than their counterparts in other countries, but after a minute, you’ll notice that that is the least interesting thing about them. They are more intelligent, curious and sociable than most other breeds, and a pleasure to meet, mount and ride.

Another fascinating trait about Icelandic horses is the fact that they have more gaits, or styles of walking, than any other breed; they can do the four regular ones, as well as their own unique ‘tölt’.

You will set out from the stables, and take a beautiful ride through the verdant, hilly countryside of South Iceland. Your gentle journey will take you nearer and nearer to Flúðir, and when you see steam rising ahead, you know you are getting close to your destination.

The Secret Lagoon is a beautiful pool that is fed by an adjacent geothermal area, which is complete with a little geyser that regularly erupts to a height of a metre or so. It is also Iceland’s oldest pool, so is as pregnant with history as it is beauty and serenity.

You will have several hours to bask in this beautiful setting; the healing properties of Iceland’s naturally heated waters will make this a revitalising and much-appreciated break.

Once you are fully recharged, you will exit to where your horses are waiting, and take a pleasant ride back to the stables.

Horseback riding and hot spring bathing are both essential Icelandic experiences. Combine them on this fantastic day tour. Check availability by choosing a date.

I had a great tour with the horses. I happened to be the only one on this trip, so I got some one on one experience. The owner emailed me that morning and let me know the route to the secret lagoon was being torn up and it wouldn’t be an enjoyable ride, so she recommended we would just do a 2 hour tour and refund me the difference. It was a beautiful day and my guide was super sweet and helpful! Thank you!
