Join us on this beautiful day tour to the Snæfellsnes peninsula. You will see all the best Iceland has to offer in 12 hours. We sometimes call the Snæfellsnes peninsula "Miniature Iceland" because you can see all the country has to offer in one single day: black sand beaches, mountains, glaciers and stunning landscapes.
We will pick you up in Reykjavík and drive ahead for this small bus tour to discover dramatic landscapes. Since this is a long day tour we recommend to bring a packed lunch, but we will also make a stop so you can purchase some local snacks for the long day ahead.
Our first encounter will be Berserkjahraun lava field, where Viking legends say that Swedish "berserkers" forged the first road in Iceland through the lava field. We will have views like in the Highlands over this rural mountain pass.
Our first stop and highlight will be Mt. Kirkjufell, known from Game of Thrones as the Arrowhead mountain. It is one of Iceland's most photographed sights as it rises 163 meters above sea level on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. We will, of course, also see Kirkjufellsfoss, the quaint waterfall next to the mountain, which is equally beautiful.
Next up is a visit to the black pebble beach at Djúpalónssandur. You will experience dramatic and astonishing views of the ocean, and your guide can tell you the stories about the shipwrecks washed ashore.
We will also visit the small fishing village Arnarstapi with the most amazing and scenic coastline. You will get a chance to visit a natural rock arch just off the coast and see plenty of seabirds. We will, of course, also see the yellow sand beaches around Búðakirkja church, a pretty 19th-century black wooden church.
Very close to the Snæfellsjökull glacier in the Snæfellsjökull national park is an optional extra of this tour - Vatnshellir lava cave. If you have never tried lava caving before, now is your chance as this is an experience available to everybody. In the light of your headlamps, you can experience the underground beauty of lava caves, with stalactites, stalagmites and all kinds of lava formations. If you don't want to go lava caving our guide can take you on a short walk around the area instead.
On our way back to Reykjavík, we will get a view of the Gerðuberg basalt columns. Afterwards, we return to Reykjavík after an unforgettable day filled with exploration.
