This tour offers a comprehensive experience of two of the main attractions of Iceland: the Silfra tectonic fissure and the Northern Lights.
Your day will start when you will drive from Reykjavik to Silfra (about 45 minutes). We will welcome you at Silfra, where you will get a detailed briefing of the snorkeling activity as well as the area. Silfra is a crack in the crust of the Earth that opened when the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates started drifting apart. The fissure is famous all over the world for the crystal clear, extremely pure water that fills it. You will swim in glacial water that has been filtered for centuries and that is the purest water you will ever drink (yes, you can drink it!). We will dress you up in top quality gear (wetsuit, undergarment, mask, snorkel and fins) and together we'll make our way to the entry platform. We will swim in the fissure for about 30 minutes, exploring the four main sections of Silfra (Big Crack, Silfra Hall, the Cathedral and the Lagoon). At the end of the snorkeling tour, we will make our way back to the parking lot, where we will help you get out of your gear and warm you up with chocolate and cookies.
After the snorkeling tour, you will drive back to Reykjavik. Your Northern Lights hunt will start later in the evening, when you will make your way to the Northern Lights Observatory in Hafnarfjörður (about 20 minutes drive from Reykjavik). Here you will get detailed info about the Lights, how to chase them in the Icelandic night, how to photograph them and much more. This is the perfect starting point for your Northern Light hunt! At the Observatory, you will also have access to a unique indoor simulation of the Lights.
