Drangajokull Glacier Midnight Adventure

Enjoy the midnight sun on top of a glacier in this incredible adventure tour. You’ll get a chance to hike up a mountain on Drangajökull, the northernmost glacier in Iceland for a spectacular view of the surrounding Westfjords. On the summit in the middle of the night, you’ll get to witness the glacier illuminated by the rays of the sun. Adventurers travelling the Westfjords should not let this fun and challenging tour pass them by.

The journey to the glacier starts late in the day in the town of Ísafjörður, the largest settlement in the Westfjords. This beautiful town has a relatively urban atmosphere, despite its small size and isolation. There are a number of restaurants and hotels in the area so you can get a good rest on the day of your tour as you will be staying up all night to witness the midnight sun’s luminous rays.

You and your fellow travellers will head on out in two super jeeps, driven by trained tour guides, travelling south to Drangajökull glacier. Depending on weather conditions and snow, the guide will select the best route to get to the glacier. Your destination is Hrolleifsborg mountain on the North-East side of the glacier, an 851-metre high mountain up which you will be hiking.

The view from the peak of Hrolleifsborg mountain is a vision you will never forget; the picturesque sight of the glacier and surrounding Westfjords lit up by the midnight sun. This natural phenomenon is limited to those close the Arctic Circle and only visible during the summer months, so witnessing it on top of a glacier is an exceptionally rare opportunity.

After you descend, you’ll get back to your super jeep and head towards the comfort of a hotel on the Westfjord's Reykjanes peninsula for breakfast and relaxation. You’ll get a chance to unwind in the hotel’s naturally heated pool before you head back out to Ísafjörður, arriving around noon.

Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to witness the midnight sun on top of a glacier. Check availability by choosing a date.
