Ride through the beautiful Heiðmörk Nature Reserve, right by Reykjavík. This tour combines the excitement of mountain biking with the joy of sightseeing across Iceland’s rugged, volcanic landscapes, and is perfect for beginner and intermediate riders.
This tour starts when you are picked up from your accommodation in a comfortable, all-terrain Super Jeep, from 08:30 or 10:30 depending on your booking selection. Once your small group has all been gathered, you will shoot out of the city to the reserve.
Heiðmörk is a well-loved local area, for its accessibility to the capital, and its incredible beauty. The reserve is renowned for its birch forests, lava fields, volcanic peaks, and the cluster of reddish pseudo-craters called Rauðhólar. Kilometres of easily traversable gravel trails run all throughout the area, providing you with a wealth of diverse landscapes.
Your experienced, friendly guide will tailor each trip to the abilities of those on the tour; they will ensure it is fun and a little challenging, without being exhausting or exclusive to those of different fitness levels. You will be in no rush as you bike through the region; you are of course more than welcome to stop for photographs whenever you desire.
As you ride, keep a keen eye out for birds; many species frequent the area during summer. This is especially the case around the lake Elliðavatn.
As you travel through this beautiful reserve, you will be pleased to know that you are having a minimal effect on the environment. Your guide will keep you strictly on the trail so that the area remains as beautiful as it is today for the years to come.
Once you have enjoyed a great ride, you will return to the Super Jeep, and be whisked back to your accommodation. Although this trip is immersive, and you will feel like you have had a good workout at the end, it lasts less than four hours, freeing up your afternoon for other activities and tours.
