Description
Experience an exhilarating snowmobile ride on the Langjokull glacier with this fantastic adventure tour departing from the Skjol Campsite on the Golden Circle. Travelers looking to add a thrilling activity to their Icelandic vacation should book this tour now.
The tour starts at Skjol campsite, where your guide will pick you up at midday. Your tour guide will brief you about the trip, and the adventure begins when you board a specialized super jeep and drive toward the Langjokull glacier.
The Skjol campsite is located near other popular attractions along the Golden Circle, such as the Gullfoss waterfall and the Haukadalur geothermal valley. You will depart from this region and head north to the Highlands, where Langjokull, Iceland's second-largest glacier, lies.
The ride to Langjokull is an exciting experience aboard the monster vehicle. The sweeping terrains along the way will take your breath away, and on a clear day, you'll get an incredible view of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.
After the drive, you'll arrive at the base camp at the Langjokull glacier, where you'll be provided with a snowmobiling suit, gloves, balaclava, helmet, and everything you need for your snowmobile ride.
Your expert guide will also give instructions for the activity and show you how to operate a snowmobile safely. Please note that you'll need a valid driver's license to drive a snowmobile, so make sure to bring it with you on the day of the tour.
Those eight years old and above without driver's licenses are welcome as passengers.
Once you're ready, hop on your snowmobile, and ride through the frozen landscape of Langjokull. Feel your excitement build as you drive on top of the ice cap, which rises around 4,757 feet (1,450 meters) above sea level. You will ride the snowmobile for one hour across this icy terrain.
Langjokull is famous for being incredibly white compared to other glaciers. This ice giant hides two volcanic systems underneath many layers of compressed snow and is the most popular glacier in Iceland for snowmobiling.
Sadly, the Langjokull glacier is quickly receding because of global warming. Knowing this makes the tour poignant, and you will appreciate the great glacier even more.
Finally, once you have explored the glacier's spectacular beauty to your heart's content, you will head back to the campsite and return all the snowmobiling equipment. You'll board the super jeep again and drive back to Sjkol, officially ending your fantastic tour.
Don't miss this chance to ride a snowmobile and explore the incredible beauty of the Langjokull glacier, one of the largest and most beautiful in Iceland. Check availability now by choosing a date.
