Description
Summary
Description
Discover the Golden Circle in Iceland and experience the thrill of snowmobiling on a glacier towards an ice cave.
The tour starts early in central Reykjavik. You can choose to be picked up from your hotel/accommodation or meet up with your guide and the rest of the group at the Reykjavik Bus Terminal.
The tour has both a live guide on board the bus and a hand-held audio guide. The audio guide is available in ten languages and is ideal for those who want to listen to the guide in their native tongue. Together, the live guide and the audio guide give you detailed and informative guidance in perfect harmony.
After a quick welcome and introduction from the guide, the bus departs towards Þingvellir National Park. At Þingvellir, you can see where two tectonic plates are pulling apart. Here the boundaries between the gigantic tectonic plates of America and Eurasia are the most obvious.
The national park is also known for its importance in the history of Iceland. At Þingvellir, the oldest parliament in the world was founded. Your guide will walk you through the rift valley, in the footsteps of the Vikings and tell you all the details of this world heritage site.
From Þingvellir, the tour continues to the one and only Geysir geothermal area. Today, Strokkur erupts every 5-10 minutes, sending hot water skywards. Seeing this magnificent geyser erupting is for many the highlight of their visit to Iceland. At the geothermal area, you will also see the many different colours of landscape found in high heat areas around Iceland.
At Geysir geothermal area you will have time to grab lunch before your journey continues to one of Iceland's fantastic waterfalls, Gullfoss.
Gullfoss is one of the most well-known waterfalls in Iceland. The water cascades down three steps before hitting the bottom of the canyon with a thunderous roar.
The day is complete with an exhilarating monster truck ride up to the enormous Langjökull glacier. Upon arrival at the glacier base camp, you will have a safety briefing by your expert snowmobile guide and taught how to operate snowmobiles. An hour-long snowmobile ride awaits, where you will explore the glacier from above before descending inside a glacier ice cave. The ice cave is by many considered the highlight of the tour. This cave is unique in many ways. In few other places can you see the glacier ice as crystalised, and it is fascinating to see all the different layers of ice and snow.
After the snowmobile and ice cave visit, you will head back to Gullfoss, where you will return to Reykjavik.
This tour is perfect for those seeking to see the sights and experience the thrilling adventure of snowmobiling to an ice cave.
