Description

Explore the enchanting crystal ice cave at Vatnajokull on this summer ice cave tour, complete with a professional photographer to capture your moments inside this natural wonder. This tour is ideal for nature enthusiasts seeking a remarkable adventure and captivating memories in Iceland's stunning ice caves.

Your journey commences at the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon parking lot in Vatnajokull National Park. It's essential to plan ahead, as this location is approximately a five-hour drive from Reykjavik. Consider staying closer to the meeting point for convenience.

Arriving 15 minutes early is advised since there are no restroom facilities at the glacier. Please ensure punctuality, as the departure time is strict.

The adventure continues as you board a 4x4 vehicle, setting out on a scenic journey towards the Vatnajokull Glacier. The route will lead you through the ancient glacier plain, and your guide will provide insights into the area's history. After about 10 minutes, you'll venture onto an F-Road, embarking on a 20 to 30-minute ride to reach the glacier parking lot.

Upon arrival at the glacier parking lot, your guide will distribute the necessary equipment for the tour. This includes crampons, an ice axe, a harness, a helmet with a headlamp, and hiking boots if you've rented them.

Following gear distribution, you'll embark on a 30-minute hike to the glacier's edge. This hike is relatively easy, with a flat, slightly rocky terrain. Your guide will set a pace that suits the group.

The tour's highlight awaits as you reach the crystal ice cave, also known as the sapphire ice cave. This natural marvel changes its shape, location, and size every year due to the melting and reforming process during the summer.

Prior to entering the cave, your guide will assist you in putting on crampons if needed. Safety instructions will be given to ensure a secure exploration of the cave.

Entering the ice cave is a surreal experience as your eyes adapt to the mesmerizing crystal blue walls, revealing hidden beauty. As you delve deeper into the cave, your guide will capture your journey with their camera, ensuring you leave with remarkable photos. They will also provide insights into the cave's formation and composition, making your visit educational and captivating.

After spending about 45 minutes to an hour inside the cave, you'll exit and make your way back to the glacier parking lot. The tour concludes with a return hike and a 30-minute drive back to the glacier lagoon, where you'll bid farewell to your guide.

Included in this adventure is a certified glacier guide and professional photographer, ensuring you get the most out of your experience. All necessary glacier equipment, including a helmet, harness, crampons, and ice climbing axes, is provided.

This is a private group experience, with a maximum of 10 persons, allowing for an intimate connection with nature.
