Discover the stunning nature of the Westman Islands aboard this boat tour.
We sail around Heimaey in Vestmannaeyjar (e. Westman Islands) for approx. 1.5 hours in a lovely passenger ship. During the sailing, we will tell you stories about our volcanic eruptions, wildlife, history, sagas, nature and folklore. Many volcanic eruptions created the Islands. The most recent was in 1973 when the inhabitants had to evacuate the island during the night and couldn't return home for many months. There are still signs of the damage caused by the eruption that remains on the island. However, the islanders have reclaimed their home island again.
In our archipelago, the youngest island in the world sits, Surtsey. During the sailing, we will see the new lava, various rock formations and even sail into sea caves and enjoy the sound acoustics there. It is a truly unique and enjoyable experience.
Vestmannaeyjar boasts one of the largest puffin colonies in the world. In summer the North Atlantic puffins nest in cliffs on the shores of the Westman Islands. During the boat trip, we will also see various other types of birds such as fulmar, kittiwake and even gannets.
If we are lucky, we might also catch a glimpse of seals or whales during the high summer season. So not only does this trip allow you to explore the nature, history and heritage of the islands off of Iceland's South Coast; you will also witness the incredible wildlife and animals.
Our boat, Teista, takes 50 passengers. There are seating inside for about 40 passengers and another 40-50 seats outside. So there is plenty of space for everyone and will be a comfortable boat ride.
