Jump aboard and join an incredible tour that combines whale watching in Faxaflói Bay and a visit to the fascinating Viðey Island. This is a perfect excursion for those based in Reykjavík who want a sea-based adventure.

You will start the tour at Reykjavík's Old Harbour, where you will board a boat heading to Viðey Island, which is less than a kilometre from shore. Once here, you will walk smooth paths through the island's pristine natural setting, seeing one of the oldest houses in the city, exploring beautiful beaches and enjoying stunning artworks, such as Yoko Ono's Imagine Peace Tower and Richard Serra's piece titled 'Áfangar.'

The Viðeyjarstofa café is open every day in summer, serving refreshments between 11 am and 6 pm, so you can eat before setting out on your whale watch.

When your whale watch departs, you will set out into Faxaflói Bay. You will be surrounded by beautiful features, such as Mount Esjan, and in clear weather, the Reykjanes Peninsula and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. You can enjoy these surroundings until the whales and dolphins of Iceland begin to appear.

The most common species seen are Minke Whales and White-Beaked Dolphins, although you also have a great chance to spot Humpbacks and Harbour Porpoises. It is not unheard of, however, for around twenty other species to appear, including Blue Whales and Orcas.

You will also see a wealth of seabirds, that in summer will include puffins.

Experienced guides on board will be looking out for any tell-tale signs of whales, such as their blows or the 'footprints' they leave when diving. They will also tell you all about each species you see, your surroundings, and are happy to answer any questions.

Don't miss your opportunity to explore Viðey Island and witness whales from Reykjavík. Check availability by choosing a date.

Videy island was so peaceful, we were pleased with a hot sunny day to admire the beauty scenery.... whale watching was a wonderful experience... we didn’t get to see the famous acrobatics of the humpback but we did see him as well as minky whale and harbour porpoise... we were a little late in the season so very lucky to see anything really! It does get cold out there so don’t be a typical tourist (
