On this private tour, you are booking a whole car that accommodates 4 passengers.
Discover all the must-see sites of the Icelandic South Coast, from Skógafoss all the way to the spectacular Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Get ready to explore beautiful waterfalls, black sand beaches, glaciers, volcanoes, and more.
In the morning, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Reykjavík and head towards your first stop: the magnificent Skógafoss, one of Iceland's most visited waterfalls. You will have some time to get up close to the waterfall, and you will also be able to climb up the staircase on the side of the waterfall to get some stunning pictures from above.
You will then continue your journey, driving along the Ring Road. You will be getting closer to one of Iceland's most active volcanoes, Hekla, known in the Middle Ages as the “gateway to hell.”
We will visit the Dyrhólaey sea cliff, from which you will have a fantastic view of the black sand beaches, the rugged peaks and the roaring ocean. With some luck, in the summer months, you might catch a glimpse of some puffins dotting the cliffs.
From the Ring Road, another Icelandic volcano is visible - the infamous Eyjafjallajökull, which erupted in 2010, grounding air traffic all over Europe.
You will stop for lunch near Reynisfjara, the famous black sand beach featuring massive sea stacks and hexagonal basalt columns, after which you will be heading to the picturesque town of Vík í Myrdal, where you will get a chance to admire the Reynisdrangar sea rock formations.
Your journey will then continue through the ever-changing landscape of the Icelandic South Coast. You will travel through green lava fields, admiring sea cliffs, barren black sand deserts and glacial rivers, and you will stop at the spectacular Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon.
You will then continue to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, one of Iceland's most beautiful attractions.
Here, icebergs of various colours, sizes and shapes float from the glacier to the Atlantic Ocean. Some are washed up on the shore, known as the Diamond Beach due to the way the ice here shines like diamonds.
We will have time to explore the lagoon and to take an optional boat tour, when available (usually from May to October). Boat rides are optional and not included.
After this, you will slowly begin heading back to Reykjavik. Along the way, you will stop at Seljalandsfoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall. A visit to this waterfall is not complete without a walk behind the curtain of water, so make sure you bring your rain jacket and get ready to get wet.
Just a short walk from Seljalandsfoss hides another beautiful waterfall, Gljúfrabúi, usually omitted by big bus tours. You will visit this waterfall in the summer months only.
There will be plenty of coffee and toilet breaks during this private tour so that you can enjoy Iceland in comfort.
