Description

Set off on an unforgettable private excursion of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula to witness a diverse array of spectacular attractions. Those eager to see ‘Iceland in Miniature’ with a personal guide should look no further than this tour.

You’ll start your day when your guide picks you up from Reykjavik. You’ll then head straight out of the city, heading northward through the beautiful landscapes of west Iceland. Cruising through the countryside and fishing villages, by the mountains and the coast, your journey promises to have a fantastic start. Feel free to ask your private driver about your surroundings and Icelandic culture as you travel.

Your first stop is a hidden gem most travelers do not even know exists, Selvallafoss waterfall. This beautiful feature is a great place to appreciate the country’s striking natural features far from other guests.

You will then cross the haunting lava field of Berserkjahraun to reach the largest town of the peninsula, Stykkisholmur. Here, you can appreciate local folklore and fishing culture while enjoying spectacular views of Breidafjordur Bay. In clear weather, you’ll see countless islands and even up to the dramatic peaks of the Westfjords.

Next, you will come to Mount Kirkjufell. This feature is known by many monikers, such as the Pyramid Peak, the Church Mountain, the Mountain Shaped Like an Arrowhead, and the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Regardless of what you choose to call it, you’ll have your breath taken by its beauty and the charm of its adjacent waterfall.

From here, you’ll reach the tip of the peninsula, which is centered around the spectacular subglacial volcano and national park of Snaefellsjokull. This area boasts many fascinating sites you will have the pleasure of visiting. Saxholl is a crater you can scale for magnificent panoramas, Djupalonssandur is a striking black sand beach, and Arnarstapi is a quaint fishing village with a fascinating history.

You’ll then cross the south side of the peninsula, witnessing awe-inspiring sites such as the Londrangar basalt plug and the mountainside gorge of Raudfeldsgja. However, your final stop will be at the shore of Ytri Tunga. Not only is this beautiful in and of itself, with golden sands and gorgeous surroundings, but it is home to seals throughout the year. You’ll have plenty of time to watch them haul on the rocks and play in the surf.

After a fantastic day of sightseeing, you’ll return to the capital.

Don’t miss this fantastic day exploring the sites of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula with a private guide. Check availability by choosing a date.
