The first stop of the day is at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. This waterfall is located close to the volcano that erupted in 2010. The water running in this waterfall runs from the glacier situated on top of the volcano. Most times of the year you will have the option to walk behind this waterfall, and on sunny days, you may even see a rainbow shine.
Skógafoss waterfall is just a short drive further to the east. Of many, this is hailed as Iceland's most beautiful waterfall.
Next, it's time for what you've been waiting for: a glacier hike on Sólheimajökull glacier. Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Underneath this glacier is Katla volcano. The hike itself takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes. The hike is moderate and requires you to have hiking boots and to be able to walk without any trouble. When on top of the glacier, you will be offered a hot chocolate and Icelandic pastry.
After your hike, you will visit Reynisfjara black sand beach next. It has a mountain located on it with big basaltic cliffs which lie on the edge of the beach.
On the way back to Reykjavik, a stop at Ingólfsskáli or the Viking house will be made for dinner. There, you will sit down with the small group and meet the owner of the Viking house who will be dressed in a Viking costume. You will be offered grass-fed free-roaming lamb straight from the Highlands. With your meal, you will be offered a local beer, wine of choice or a soda.
What a great way to end this day! Check availability by choosing a date.
