The tour starts on Laugavegur shopping street in central Reykjavík where you will meet your local guide and other participants in your group. From there, you’ll walk up to Reykjavík’s most famous landmark, Hallgrímskirkja church. You will go up the bell tower and receive an incredible view of the city with its multi-coloured rooftops, Faxaflói Bay with its islands, and the surrounding mountains and volcanoes.

Next, you visit the lovely Einar Jónsson sculpture garden where you will learn the basics of Norse mythology before strolling through the quaint streets of Þingholt neighbourhood towards the City Pond.  

From there you continue into the Reykjavik City Hall where you will view the large topographical map of Iceland and listen to your guide explaining a little bit about Iceland’s fascinating geology and volcanic history. The tour then threads the heart of the city, taking in the Alþingi Parliament House, the modest but beautiful cathedral, and the site of the first Viking homesteads in the city. 

Next up is the Old Harbour, an up-and-coming city centre. Then, you’ll stroll along the north shore from the harbour, visiting the impressive Harpa Concert Hall and Sólfarið Sculpture (Sun Voyager) before you make the final stop at the Volcano House where you will enjoy a short presentation on volcanoes as well as receive and discounts from the store and exhibition.

Great way to get acclimated to the city. Lolly (sp?) was an outstanding guide. He packs a bunch of info into the walk and you'll learn a lot about the history of Iceland in a fun and engaging way.
