Want to get away from it all for an easy hike and a relaxing bath in a natural hot spring in a canyon in the Icelandic highlands? Want to experience various sightseeing spots in one comfortable day, including a beautiful waterfall, a powerful hot spring and an extinct glacier? That’s what we thought.
If you have just one day to spare, we highly recommend this revitalising tour.
The tour begins at BSÍ bus terminal in Reykjavik and heads to the lush Húsafell area in West Iceland with stops at Deildartunguhver and the charming Hraunfossar lava waterfalls. After a lunch break at Húsafell the tour heads for its final destination at the canyon hot spring baths called Giljaböð where you can relax and meditate on your excursion before heading back to the city.
Deildartunguhver is one of Europe’s most powerful hot springs and a sight to behold. Hraunfossar is a series of waterfalls that spirt out in a row from underneath a lava field.
Húsafell is a lush area in the western part of Iceland and a favourite among Icelanders looking to escape the city for some greenery and good weather.
The hike to the canyon baths includes a stop at Langifoss waterfall, a rare treat off the beaten path.
Giljaböð is the highlight of this tour, a unique hot spring bath set in a beautiful canyon, undoubtedly a very authentic way to experience some of Iceland’s best features, its geology and geothermal water. The rustic and natural-looking facilities at Giljaböð (locker room, showers and walkways) are simple yet brand-new. Visitors can relax in three geothermal pools of varying temperatures while enjoying the spectacular views of the surrounding canyon, glaciers and mountains.
The Hot Spring Canyon Baths & Waterfalls tour is what we call 10 hours well spent.
