Make the most of your final hours in Iceland with this sightseeing tour from Reykjavík to Keflavík Airport, through the volcanic wonderland of the Reykjanes Peninsula. This excursion should not be missed by those who are eager to pack as much into their holiday as possible.

The tour begins when you are picked up with your luggage from Reykjavík; you’ll have checked out of your hotel, and be ready for your final adventure. You’ll leave the capital, and enter the otherworldly landscapes of Reykjanes.

This stretch is known for its cone-shaped volcanoes, stark lunar landscapes, and the grey-green moss that creeps across the landscapes. The reason for the many eruptions here is because the Mid-Atlantic rift, which divides the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, runs along the peninsula. At your first stop, you’ll be able to walk from one of these plates to the other.

The Bridge Between the Continents takes you from Europe to America and back, and has many signs to inform guests about the geology of this fascinating country.

You will then head to the Gunnuhver geothermal area, which is known for its many bubbling mud pits, steaming vents, and its folklore concerning a vengeful ghost. From here you will also be able to see the oldest lighthouse in the country on a cliff not far away.

You’ll stop for lunch in the historic village of Grindavík, where you can try Icelandic lobster fresh from the ocean, or Icelandic lamb from a nearby farm (or, of course, a vegetarian meal). Next, you’ll take some photos of the azure waters around the Blue Lagoon, before heading to another geothermal area, Krýsuvík.

You will then head to the Lake Kleifarvatn, the largest lake on the peninsula, which is surrounded by jagged peaks and bubbles in one section due to the hot springs beneath its surface. Finally, you’ll reach Hafnarfjörður, a town renowned for its folklore concerning the mysterious Hidden People of Iceland.

You’ll then be dropped safely at Keflavík Airport in time for your flight.

Don’t let a moment of adventure pass you by on your holiday, and get to the airport knowing you’ve made the very most of your time. Check availability by choosing a date.

Great personal tour. Didn't realize that the tour was not a bus tour, but a private van tour -- a nice way to end our trip to Iceland. The driver/guide was friendly, informative, informal. He was happy to answer questions, and having a private guide enabled us to find out things about Icelandlic life that may not otherwise be broached during a larger tour.
