Golden Circle and Icelandic Food Tour

Enjoy the sites of the Golden Circle and some of Iceland’s delicious cuisine, with this luxurious sightseeing tour. This excursion should not be missed by those who seek to see Iceland’s classic landmarks and eat some local food, without being on a massive tour bus.

You will be picked up in Reykjavík, before embarking on the country’s favourite tourist route. First up is Þingvellir National Park. You can feel the history in this beautiful valley; in 930 AD, early Icelanders formed a national assembly here, which was so successful that it continues today. Þingvellir is thus the original site of the world’s longest-running, ongoing parliament, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a result.

Þingvellir is not just famous for its history. It is framed by the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, both of which are clearly visible, thus a walk through a valley is a walk between the continents.

Next up is Strokkur, a geyser in Haukadalur Valley that erupts to heights of forty metres every five minutes or so. All geysers in the world are named after another one at this site, Geysir itself, although it hasn’t been active for several years now. Even so, Strokkur, and the surrounding hot springs are more than enough to entertain tens of thousands of visitors a year.

Finally, you will arrive at Gullfoss. This is a stunning waterfall, and one which has come to represent Iceland’s beauty, power and drama.

With the Golden Circle complete, you will head to the Friðheimar Tomato and Horse Farm. Here, you can see how Iceland’s geothermal forces are utilised to grow vegetables. You’ll get a guided tour and plenty of opportunities to try the produce. Don’t fill up too much, however; you will be heading to a beautiful coastal village where you will enjoy a traditional Icelandic seafood dinner.
