Waterfalls, volcano, ice and black sands in ECO friendly jeep

The South Coast of Iceland has always been feared by seafarers due to the rough surf that hammers the pitch black sands 365 days of the year. Many ships have perished on this coast.

Driving from Reykjavik we head east, passing lavafields, mountains and highlands before reaching the lush farmlands of South Iceland.

During this great tour you will visit Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. It is possible to walk behind Seljalandsfoss to get an unusual view towards the water as it falls some 60 meters over ancient sea cliffs.

While passing the south side of Eyjafjallajökull volcano, the volcano that erupted in 2010 affecting the whole world, we stop at a local farm to meet the farmers and their animals. These farmers and their ancestors have dealt with the rough conditions in the area for centuries. These are tough people.

We also have lunch in a small cafe run by one of the farms.***

From the farm we head to Sólheimajökull glacier. This is a run-off glacier from the enormous Mýrdalsjökull ice cap, the home of Katla volcano. A short hike takes us to the edge of this unique world of ice.

The pitch black sands of Reynisfjara beach with ancient sea cliffs and magnificent basalt columns towering above is truly a place of stunning natural power. This is our next stop. These cliffs are the home of thousands of puffins during their nesting season along with a multitude of other seabirds.

Backtracking back to Reykjavik we drive through the small coastal village of Eyrarbakki with many very old and colourful houses, typical for Icelandic villages.

Then it is time to head back to Reykjavik after an eventful day. Book now! Check availability by choosing a date!
