Come along on a journey to the most renowned sites in Iceland on this all-day tour of the most popular places in the whole country. A Super Jeep will pick you up in style in Reykjavík and spirit you out of the city to see the magnificent Golden Circle, on this tour perfect for any enthusiasts of nature.
The Golden Circle includes three fabulous locations: Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall. At Þingvellir, in addition to the history of the site, where a parliament was founded in approximately 930 AD, there is also Drekkingarhylur ('The Drowning Pond'), where women accused of practising witchcraft were drowned in the Middle Ages.
For natural wonders, there is the famed Almannagjá Gorge, which marks the divide between two continental plates, drifting ever so slightly apart each year. The sparkling waters of Silfra fissure, a popular spot for diving and snorkelling, mark the north shore of Þingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest natural lake.
Next, you’ll visit Geysir geothermal area, an exciting attraction with bubbling mud pots, hissing steam vents, roiling fumaroles and, of course, the geysers themselves. Though Geysir, the most famous, has gone mostly silent in recent decades, its neighbour Strokkur is quite the show-off: it erupts approximately every 10 minutes, hurling water as high as 40 m (130 ft) into the air.
The final stop on the Golden Circle is the mighty Gullfoss, a waterfall whose power puts the quintessential babbling brook to shame. Take the paved path right down to the waterfall and feel the vibrations in your feet and the spray on your face as it churns beneath you.
After a lunch break in the town of Selfoss, you will be taken to the famous Blue Lagoon to relax away the exertions of the day in the silica-rich water with its soothing, skin-softening properties. Just remember to book your ticket to the lagoon beforehand. You’ll then return to Reykjavík just in time to partake in the bustling nightlife of the city.
Don't miss these famous locations. Check availability above by pressing by choosing a date.
Blue Lagoon tickets must be booked separately and well in advance. The tour reaches the Lagoon just before 16:00.
