Golden Circle Day Tour | With the Earthquake Exhibition and an Icelandic Farm

4.9
Based on 13 traveller reviews

Jump aboard and join us for a minibus tour of the ever popular Golden Circle, a visit to the famed farmhouse of Efsti Dalur, and a stop at an earthquake exhibition where the very powers that shaped this country into existence are put on display.

The first stop of the Golden Circle tour is by the magnificent Gullfoss ('Golden Waterfall') on the Hvita River. Cascading over 30 meters into the gorge below, this aquatic giant's mighty power makes the earth tremble under your feet while you are invited to stand close enough to feel the spray on your face.

Next, we visit Geysir, the world-famous hot spring in the geothermal valley of Haukadalur. Geysir is undoubtedly Iceland's most iconic natural attraction, and although it is not as active as it once was, it's neighbor, Strokkur, maintains a constant display of the earth's unbound energy by shooting boiling water as far as 40 meters into the sky every 10 minutes.

The last stop of the Golden Circle tour is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Þingvellir ('Parliament Fields'), the national reserve in which the Icelandic parliament was founded in 930. Þingvellir is home to the rift valley which marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic range where the American and European tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart, and in the Almannagjá canyon, you can walk between the two continents.

On our way to Geysir, we will visit the farm of Efsti Dalur where you can get coffee and homemade ice cream in the café which is located in the barn. We will also pay a visit to the earthquake exhibition in Hveragerði to learn about the powers that forged the day's sights and see how they have affected the people who live in this area of extreme volcanic and geothermal activity.

Avoid the crowded big bus tours by booking this affordable minibus excursion of the Golden Circle. Check availability by choosing a date.

Great tour of the Golden Circle! Sigthor was a great guide and managed to squeeze in lots of fun little extra stops into the tour which added to the experience and allowed us to learn more about the local culture. The small group size was also perfect. Would definitely recommend!

10 out of 10. Fannar was the best guide I've ever had - not only informative, engaging and very friendly but also willing to really connect with the guests on all levels and share some Icelandic culture, music etc. The small group size was excellent and we were able to make a number of scenic stops along the way (plus see one or two sites not listed on the official itinerary).

This was a great tour with lots of little extras that set it above other Golden Circle tours. There were about 20 people on the minibus and we were all picked up by 8:40am. Our driver/tour guide, Hal, said it was a little later because of snow. The bus was really nice, clean and new, with wifi and usb charging spots at each seat. We stopped at all the places listed in the description, plus one waterfall that didn't have any signs (it paid to have a local guide!). Hal also stopped on the side of the road once when he saw the Icelandic horses were at a nearby fence, and also at a lake with a really hot spring. It felt more like exploring than just a tour, and Hal told us interesting facts and info as we drove. There were LOTS of tourists, even though it was only March. We stopped for lunch at Geysir and they had a great variety of food, including really good vegetarian soup. We got a little held up when two people from our group didn't come back to the bus by the appointed time, but Hal tracked them down and promised that no one would be left behind. Helpful tip: the bathrooms at Gullfoss and the parliament site were pay toilets. We made it back to Reykjavik by 5:30pm. I'd definitely recommend this tour!

Great trip. Our guide was Thorstein and he was great. Very knowledgeable and very accommodating. We had some awesome ice cream at the farm. We also stopped at tomato greenhouse. They have the most amazing tomato soup. The Geysir and waterfall were beautiful. The only reason we didn't give this a five is because in the description it says that the last stop is where the tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart and in the Almannagja Canyon you can walk between the two continents. This was our first stop so it was in total darkness. If would have been better is they would have started the tour 30-60 minutes later if they stop here first. With that being said, it was still and great tour and we highly recommend it.

Definitely an amazing experience! This trip really sets you up for success in the rest of your iceland excursion. Our guide (Funnar) was friendly and informative, and went out of his way to explain Icelandic culture, as well as took us to some of his favorite places. The farm had the BEST ice cream I have ever eaten (I recommend the salted caramel) and the views of the waterfalls we saw were breathtaking. There's free wifi on the bus and lots of great photo opportunities throughout. Take this tour!

There was some misunderstanding on reception in hotel so review is based on experience up to pickup. Guide came to hotel at all in time, has waited there but tourists didn´t appeared. We fixed it for same tourist on different way, so they were been on Golden circle. Thanks anyway to be ready with short advance to pick up tourists of Mercury Grail company.

We had a wonderful day. The snow was coming down which added beauty to the whole experience. Tour guide " snow man" was awesome!

Thor was the best guide we could ask for! He had so much knowledge about everything, and made a point to show us as much as he could, from Icelandic horses and fresh ice cream, to geysers and fault lines, Thor provided such a rich experience for my friends and me. He even stopped to get us some traditional ground baked bread for our group. I would highly recommend this tour, it was truly educational and memorable.

We had an amazing time on the Golden Circle tour with August as our guide! We were only a small group due to the time of year we visited but we had the best day of our holiday on this trip! We were made to feel really welcome, and as we weren't on a coach trip we had a much more personalised experience! Thanks again for a great day!!!

I had great time going to the Golden Circle with Hakàn and the group in the minibus. The day was long but completely mind-blowing! In addition of the "traditional" stops, we have also discovered some less touristy places, discover about the geothermic energy and how Iceland is making te most of it. He also gave us some background on Iceland, its culture and customs which impressed me. I definitely recommend this tour!

Nice, friendly, welcoming guide talked throughout the tour about Icelanders' customs, history, and culture. Strongly recommend the tour.
